CHAPTER 3
I stood there for a moment in shock. I slowly started to respond, when I heard Jayden barking again. I came to my senses and jerked back, breathing hard. He dropped his forehead against mine and let his eyes meet mine. I didn't realize he had wrapped my legs around his waist until I felt them drop. Then I heard a throat clear. When I looked up, I saw my grams and my little brother, Wyatt, standing there staring at us. Then my gram's face split into a wide grin. She ran forward and Adrian pulled away just as she gave him a hug that had his breath whooshing out of his mouth.
I couldn't help but giggle at the look on his face. He looked at me with a gleam of amusement in his eyes. He looked sheepishly down at the older woman and wrapped his arms around her. When she pulled away, I started pelting her with question after question.
"Why is he saying I'm promised to him? Why is he telling me I'm his? He says he is a dragon. Where do you know him from? Should I trust him? I need a cup of coffee! Why did he follow me home?" I asked all in one breath and the coffee being I needed it to help me think. Jayden whined at my obvious distress and I patted his head.
Her eyes had kind of glazed over with my questions and when I looked at Adrian, he looked confused and then he blurted," You need a cup of coffee? I'll get it," he said. I blushed when he said that and then I realized we were being watched. I looked up to see my grandma with a grin on her face and my little brother staring with a confused look on his.
Grams started," Because, angel, you are promised and you do belong to him. He is a dragon; a beautiful one too. He is a very old friend of mine and when you were born he came to see you in the hospital ward. The moment he saw you, he knew he had to have you, that you are his life-mate. You can trust him with your life and ours. He is strong and will be able to care for you for as long as you both live. He followed you home because of the questions you asked him. He wanted you to know he was being truthful with you."
"Told you so," came Adrian's voice from the kitchen.
"Well how was I supposed to know that? You were a stranger when I saw you. How was I supposed to know I could trust a naked man?" I asked him. Grams looked at me with a raised eyebrow and I shrugged. "He was a dragon first and then he changed to a human and was butt naked," I explained. She nodded her head in understanding.
Adrian walked back in with a steaming cup of coffee. I took the cup and drank a sip of it. Mmmmm butter pecan flavored. I love my coffee and he made it perfectly. It helped to calm my nerves for my next couple of questions. I sat down and Adrian sat next to me on the couch. Jayden jumped up and got in between us, settling over my lap. I mentally prepared myself for what I was about to ask next.
"By the way, how did you know how I liked my coffee?" I asked him.
"Your Grams has been keeping me well informed about you, including how you like your coffee and your favorite foods, movies, books, you name it and I know it," he said looking proud of himself. I just stared at him, thinking he was some kind of weird stalker.
