The Heat is Sated

                                                                  CHAPTER 13

      After school, we walked home in a heated silence. We walked through the door to the mouth-watering smell of beef stew with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and steamed asparagus. All of my favorite home cooked meals together. They reminded me so much of all the good times I had when I was younger and I just knew Adrian had something to do with it.

      I looked up at him and saw the twinkle in his eyes. He had deliberately done this to help relax me into a calm state before tonight. I could already see his dragon eyes popping out.       Grandma Morgan said, "We are going to the movies. Y'all behave and no funny business. We will be back late so don't stay up." She obviously knew what we were up to, but didn't say and I was grateful for that.

      We curled up next to each other and we were soon asleep. I faintly heard the back door open and voices, but I was too far into sleep to make much out of it.
