Its been 10 years since I last saw Jessie, we talked every second that we could once I got home, that whole six months-the good and bad had stayed with me but Jessie didn't. it was about two years after, our communication slowed, Jessie went on with her career and I with mine and in every way it broke my heart, Jessie helped me with the hardest time of my life she gave me confidence to find new friends and to find the real me. Now Jessie’s in the back of my mind, a memory.
"Kelsey please can you just hurry up?" I scream at her, she's moving out thank God. Kelsey -my ex girlfriend had been a hassle from the start but I never thought she would take a week to move out of the apartment. "Lucy I can't just disappear alright. I've been living here for two years and I'm not magic." she yelled back at me while stomping down the stairs with the last of her boxes. "Yeah well if I broke up with someone after a three year relationship I would be pretty desperate to get out of their house. oka-" I couldn't quite finish my sentence because tears filled my eyes. "I'm sorry lu, you know why this is." She came up to comfort me but all I want from her is out. "You have no right to call me that. Now out, okay just out. don't touch me just leave." And that was it she was gone. I was alone again.
"mum I'm coming round, if that's okay?" I said as soon and mums chirpy hello called through the line. "Oh-okay hunny. when should I expect you ?" Mum’s voice cheered me up a little. “soon.” I hung up and smiled, I knew that it was silly but family meant the world to me ever since dad died I needed a connection to someone constant, I thought that person was Kelsey but clearly not, it hurt a lot to think about this whole situation. Trying to forget about it I jump in my car and turn the radio on loud letting my mind be filled up with lyrics and tunes. I missed the freedom of music.
"you feel like thunder in the sk-" singing along with a catchy new song I shut off the car to be welcomed by mum gardening out the front if the house. "Do you think you had the music loud enough there luce?" mum asked pulling me in for a hug. "Its a good song and I have valid reason." I half heartedly laughed. "Do you even know who sings it?" mum said, clearly thinking she was cool for knowing some pop artist. "Look mum I don't really care this is not why I'm here." I replied in the kindest way I could. "Hmm well, you want a cup of tea?" I followed her inside to find
Jack . "Ew why are you here?" He asked in a full on joking way. “Pla-ese. Don’t talk to me.” I laughed out, trying to keep my face straight but failing immensely. “It’s good to see you Lucy anyway.” He said coming up to give me a hug. The whole day was full of smiles, I knew family could cheer me up whenever I needed it. It was about 6pm when I had a fun idea, “Hey Jack!” I yelled down the stairs, forcing Jack to get up and come to talk to me. “What do you want?” He asked making his way into the hallway. “Do you want to come watch a movie with me? I think it’d be fun.” I ask, it’d be fun to catch up with my brother. “Ahh yeah okay. That’d be fun.”
“Good movie huh?” Jack asked pulling me out of my daydream. “uh yeah? Yeah no, it was good.” I put on a fake smile. “Lucy, if a disney movie can’t cheer you up you know what you have to do.” I looked at him, the weak smile that I tried to produce disappeared. “Jack, you listen to me, I’m not going back there. Do you understand.” “No Luchia, you listen to me. When you came back you were so happy. I know I’m your younger brother and I know mum didn’t notice your struggle but I did and ever since you came back from London you changed and I know you were happy over there.” at this point Jack and I had stopped walking and we just stood there. “It wasn’t London that made me happy,” I sighed. “Well what you need to do is go over there, find someone new who makes you happy, a friend or even a girlfriend and be happy. There is nothing that will help you right now in New Zealand. I know you don’t like it here so go please Lucy just go over there. I will help mum. If you are more miserable come back.” Jack had so many good points but I don’t know if I could make any living over in London like how would I get a job in any field of psychology over there. “I don’t know, we’ll see.” I sniffed back my tears and continued walking home.
The next morning and we were all sitting up at the table for breakfast, I hadn’t talked to Jack since last night and by the time we walked home Mum was asleep. “Mum, what would you think if I went over to London, like try to get a job there and so on?” I asked passing over the milk to her. In the corner of my eye I could see Jack smirking over the fact that I had actually thought about thins whole idea. “Well in all honesty I think it would be splendid but, in the end it’s whatever will make you happy. Which caused a sigh out of me. There was no actually advice in this family. We all sat and ate breakfast, it was nice to just have a catch up with Mum as I hadn’t seen her in a while, that’s what Kelsey did that made me so mad- as soon as we moved in together a year ago she limited the amount I spent with my family and prioritised her self.
“I might head home now mum, okay?” I said after washing up. “Okay blossom.” Mum said giving me a hug and heading upstairs to get my clearly overpacked bag. I was going to help when Jack yelled out, “Oh Lucy, will you give me a ride down to Welly with you?” I sighed and agreed and went on to get my stuff. The drive home was quite, the radio played in the background and that’s all. and now Jessie J’s new song Thunder. “Oh this song is amazing, this J girl has one beautiful voice,” I said trying to talk some small talk, “you know if you went to London you might be able to do something with your singing as well.” He kept giving me pros of going back over, I couldn’t see any cons. I saw the sign for the airport exit as we came into Wellington. “Fuck it!” I semi-yelled and took the turn. “I see you’ve made up your mind.” Jack said holding on to the handle above the door in fear of my reckless driving. “We’ll see, I’m either leaving today or never.”
“Yes ma’am I can get you a ticket for a flight today, stopover in auckland and singapore to London. Please understand with this short notice the price has increased rapidly from the original.” The ticket lady informed me, the last thing I had on my mind was money, even though it never seemed it, dad had a lot of saving and to say the least, we got a fair amount each. I purchased the ticket and spent the afternoon in the airport with Jack, I hated people making rash decisions but I had to be happy somewhere and this wasn’t the place. Here I come London and new opportunities,
I'm so sorry for this short, long awaited update but I've been stressed. I'm begging you please tell me what you are thinking. So yeah.
