Chapter 9
That night I went to Cari's since Vince would be at their cottage. I walked in to see Cari cautiously approaching me. "How much do you love me?" she asked swaying back and forth trying to look innocent.
"Not enough to do whatever it is you're about to ask me." I giggled while sitting on the couch.
Cari handed me a safety pin and a piece of apple. " Please pierce my belly button, I can't do it myself." Cari pleaded desperately.
I sighed before taking the pin and apple out of her hand. Cari laid outstretched on her bed holding the railing squeezing her eyes shut. How someone could actually want to mutilate their bodies was beyond me. After I was done I actually admired the piercing, it was rather exquisite.
"You want me to pierce yours? I have a diamond belly ring that would look hot on you’re sexy bod." Cari teased while dangling the ring in front of me.
I immediately shook my head. "No..no....”
Suddenly I felt completely spontaneous. “ Actually you know what? Yeah, let’s do this.” I said energetically. After a few hefty screams, my belly flesh had a hole ripped through it . I couldn’t stop staring at it in amazement. It hadn’t hurt nearly as much as I thought it would.
I grabbed a kleenex and wiped the very little blood around the ring and stood up in front of the body length mirror that hung behind her door. I couldn’t help but feel completely bad ass.
"Alright, next stop Pot City." Cari leaned over to her dresser and pulled out her bong.
"Actually I wanted to pop by and say goodnight to Nick. Be back in a few." I smiled before climbing out of her window.
“I know it’s a strange idea but there is a door.” Cari muttered while waving me goodbye.
“Nah, it was too far away.” I teased.
I knocked on the door twice there wasn't any answer. 'Odd.' I mumbled noticing that the lights were still on. I motioned to the back door when I heard yelling, I pressed my ears against the door listening intently.
"You don’t get it. I will NEVER follow in your footsteps." I've never heard Nick speak with such hatred in his voice.
"Oh son but you will, you see we have an agreement and if you won't follow up on your agreement I know someone else who will." The tone Vince used was patronizing to say the least.
"You leave Ali out of this." Nick growled furiously and threateningly.
Vince let out a rich deep laugh. "She's disposable if need be."
I couldn't see clearly but I saw Nick's figure grow closer to Vince when I heard Vince who fell backwards while cursing profanity. After the panic set in I immediately barged in running towards Nick who was about to strike him again. I stood in front of him to stop him.
"Nick please." I held his shaking hands in my own, unable to speak.
"Listen to the girl, son." Vince calmly stood up wiping the blood off of his lip.
Nick's eyes refused to meet mine that's when I brought his face down to mine. His eyes were filled with anger, he fought back the tears while biting his bottom lip.
"How long have you been there?" Nick asked.
"I'm not sure, I guess I heard the last bit." I softly stated in a whisper.
Nick grabbed my hand and began walking me back to Cari's in complete silence. There was so much I wanted to know but was scared to ask. I couldn’t believe how Nick’s dad brought out the worst in Nick. It scared me because what if he pushed Nick to the edge? I turned my head to look at him and he refused to look at me.
