                                                               Chapter 1

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.”

Like dreams, it’s really hard to know where your beginning and where your ending points are. For myself, I’ve always waited for that beginning but a crucial time in my life made me realize that sometimes you have to go through an ending to find another beginning.

I was thirteen years old when my grandmother passed away, she was like a mother to me.   After I was born my parents claimed that  they weren't ready to be parents just yet which meant that  I got the privilege of being tossed around a lot. Some would think that having such an unstable upbringing  was unhealthy to say the least; in my opinion and from my life experience it was a blessing in disguise.

The one home which I was fortunate enough to have that felt like a home, was on the island with my grandparents. They were good people and maybe it was out of pity or maybe they loved me as their own but regardless  they took care of me. I lived with them for the first  few years of my life until  I was five years old which then I  moved back with my parents. It wasn’t by choice but I was lucky enough to be able to come back every summer. I counted down the two hundred and seventy-five days of hell just for the ninety days of bliss. This story starts with the one summer in particular that absolutely devastated me.

My uncle pulled into Gram's driveway and there was a for sale sign already dug into the earth near the front porch. Chills of anger waved throughout my body as  I stood there in complete disbelief. It was a totally outrageous thing to sell their house but to do it so soon, they couldn't sell my home and memories it just wasn't right. My hands were shaking slightly as  I walked into the house where a strange man in a suit looked me in the eyes all the while grinning. Of course he was pleased, men like him didn’t live by morals they lived by big fat pay cheques. His cheeky grin widened before letting out a soft chuckle.

“Well aren’t you a cute kid. Why don’t you run along and let the adults talk business.” His smug unearthly expression beamed as I frowned in detest. I remember kicking him in the knee with all the force I had behind me before running out of the house.

My heart pounded wildly throughout my body causing my eardrums to ring.I ran until I felt like my legs were going to give out beneath me and I couldn't run anymore. Collapsing on top of a hill which was probably private property I found myself  laying down on the grassy field, staring up at the sky that was now dark watching the stars twinkle brightly. I wondered if she could see me right now, what would she say? Was she in heaven and with Gramps?  I couldn't bring myself to cry whether it was because I didn't truly understand that I'd never see Gram's again or because I felt betrayed. The one place I could escape the abuse my life brought with it and now that place would be sold.

I heard something rustling in the bushes not far from where I was, defensively  I pulled out my keys extending my hand as though I had a weapon while shouting out towards the bushes.

" GET BACK!” I shouted fearfully.

“ I have a knife, a big one so back off."

I had hoped to sound threatening but the uncertainty in my voice must have given myself away because a figure appeared making itself present. Stepping forth  was a guy maybe in his late teens with short brown hair, his features were hard to make out at that distance but he looked pretty harmlesss. I still cautioned myself but slowly lowered my keys.

" Are you Ali?" He asked softly while slowly approaching me before stopping roughly six feet away from me.

"Not today, I'm not." I said sternly while staring at him curiously wondering why he cared. He shook his head  before he decided to plop down on the grass next to myself. His features were still a bit of the blur due to the lack of lighting but now that I thought of it, he did look a little familiar.
