Chapter 6
I've been home for about a full day now, a whole twenty-four hours and not a single word spoken to Nick. To say I was completely and utterly heartbroken was an understatement. I had no way of getting a hold of Nick since my phone was literally in pieces, but that didn’t keep me from trying. Nick probably hated me and would likely never want to talk to me again and he’d be justified. I laid across my bed trying to devise a plan to either phone every Ashmore in the phone book-which would be time consuming.I mean out of 6,307 Ashmores, Nick's number was bound to be in there somewhere. Maybe I'd steal my parent's car to drive down to see him, which would be a less intelligent plan but I finally had a brilliant idea which led me to picking up the phone to call Cari.
"Hello?" Cari answered cheerily.
"Hey Cari, I need a favour?" I practically pleaded over the phone.
"What's that?" Cari’s tone wasn’t as scrutinizing as I thought it might be. Desperate times called for desperate measures and this fell under that category.
"Can we take your dad's car tomorrow and go to New Port?" I was confident I could convince Nick to at least hear me out, I owed him that at least.
"My parents dragged me away when Nick and I were suppose to -you know and I need to see him.” I needed Cari to be there for me right now.
"Ali there's something you should know. That night you left, Nick went looking for you and when he heard you were gone he came to our cottage with Trish and I think they had sex."
Well she did say she thought they had sex not that they did, which gave me very little false hope.
Cari never took it upon herself to sugarcoat anything. I was speechless it couldn't be true, then again he did kiss Trish to make me jealous what would he do if I left him the night we were suppose to have sex. I was quiet for a minute or so. God, I was going to be sick. I had to at least confront him about this maybe hit him- I wasn't entirely sure.
"Cari, I still want to go. He owes me something, at least an explanation." I said in a completely monotone voice, feeling nothing but numb.
" Okay. See you tomorrow morning."
*****
It was around nine in the morning and I was ready to go, I made sure I was dressed as hot as I could to make him regret ever sleeping with Trish. I mean sure, right now it was an assumption but I wanted Nick to tell me otherwise. I had to stop thinking about this because it was literally going to drive me crazy. The fact that this was going to be a long drive there meant it didn’t matter how much I tried to not think about it, my stupid brain would hit rewind all over again.
When I saw Cari pull in the driveway, I felt anxious and relieved. I could stop pacing around the house and thankfully dad would be at work until late, with that I didn’t hesitate before bolting out the door. The next three hours would be spent driving with Cari to go somewhere I wasn’t entirely sure I wanted to go.
"You going to be okay?" Cari asked sympathetically.
I was staring out the window hardly paying attention. “Mmhmm.”
"Did you want to talk about it?" Cari turned slightly to look at me.
"Mmhmm."
"Did you want to go to a casino, win a bunch of money and spend it on prostitutes?" Cari turned to look at me.
"Mm- prostitutes?" I snapped out of it and suddenly started laughing.
"What?" Cari couldn't figure out what was so funny.
