{Chapter Two}
"Alec, why can't mommy or daddy see you?" Lily tried asking again. Alec sighed."I already told you, I'm different," he answered. Lily pouted, she thought it would be cool if mommy and daddy couldn't see her if she was in trouble.
"But I wanna know how to turn invisible!" she whined, jutting out her lip in a hopeful face. Alec winced. He hated how she could do that. Stupid puppy face. Should he tell her? He debated with himself in his head.
Not now! A little voice in the back of his head spoke.
But she might get mad if I don't tell her sooner or later...
She'd understand!
How would YOU know?
Really, Alec?
Oh yeah... but she still deserves to know.
Do you really want to burden her with what you are? With your secret? Besides, what will she think when she finds out? What if she gets scared?
You're right... then what should I tell her? I don't want to lie to her!
You have a point there. Tell her what you are, but not why you're here.
Fine. That's a reasonable compromise.
Alec took a deep breath."Lily, I'm a ghost,"
[A/N: Ha ha wouldn't it be funny if I just stopped here?]
Alec held his breath. How would she react?
Lily's mouth dropped open. Her breath quickened. Then she burst out laughing.
"You're so silly!" she giggled, doubling over. Alec let out his breath shortly. So... she doesn't believe me. She was clutching her stomach from laughing so much.
"No, really, I am a ghost," he repeated, his face serious. Lily stopped laughing when she noticed this.
"But- but ghosts are supposed to be white, and see-through, and scary! You're not scary, you're nice!" Lily argued. Alec raised an eyebrow [A/N: Ha! Can you people do that? I can!]
"Ever heard of Casper, the friendly ghost?" he asked. Lily bit her lip.
"Well, he's white! You're not white! You don't even look like a ghost!" Lily countered.
"Lily, that's just in the movies. Real ghosts are like me," he said, pointing to himself. Lily narrowed her eyes thoughtfully at him, as if judging him.
"Fine. Prove it!" she demanded, raising her head. Alec looked around. Then he immediately disappeared into thin air. Lily's mouth rounded, forming an 'o'.
"Alec? Where did you go?" she asked frantically, waving her arms around the area he had vanished. She felt nothing, only cool air.
"I'm here still. Do you believe me?" his voice sounded from the top of the stairs. She looked up and saw no one. Suddenly, he appeared on the other side of the room, floating in midair above a cushioned air.
"Woah," Lily whispered in awe. Alec smiled a thin-lipped smile then dropped onto the couch.
"So?" he asked.
