I opened the front door,"What the" I dropped my bags. "Shit, I walked into the wrong house," I went back out checking this most certainly was my house. I closed the front door behind me,"What has she done to the house."
It looked like a modern furnishing magazine threw up all over the place. I pulled out my phone sending Elliot at text that I'd arrived. The nice white tiles was replaced with nice wooden floors. "Where did she get the money for all of this," I said aloud.
She'd repainted the nice cream colored walls with light smokey grey. Strange abstract paintings on the hallway walls replaced our old family photos. I frowned,"Mom has completely lost it."
I went into the living,"What happened to the couch." The brown suede couch and it's cherry red pillows covered in pizza stains from over the years was gone. I sat on the shiny leather black couch,"What it reclines." I pulled the lever sitting back,"Okay this might be the only change I like."
I ran upstairs to my bedroom,"Thank god." Everything still looked the same as I left it months ago. I sat on the bed remembering all the times I spent studying in high school. I rolled my eyes,"So much for the best years of my life."
I heard voices outside and the sound of a car door slamming. I jogged downstairs,"Mom!" My eyes widened at the sight before me,"Who's this." I stared at the man who had his arms comfortably around my mother's waist.
"Sweet heart your home," she pulled me into a hug while I still questioned the presence of this man. He stood there with shopping bags in his hand,"Where do you want these Kathrine?"
"I almost forgot" she laughed nervously looping her arm through mine "Sweet heart this is David, David this is my son as you know Parker." The big lumber jack guy smiled holding out his free hand to me,"I've heard so much about you."
I looked at his hand not returning his friendliness,"Nice to meet you too David." He had a short beard, brown greying hair, dark sharp brown eyes, with strong chiseled like features. He strangely resembled the lumber jack guy from the Brawny commercials. I stayed in my room until being called downstairs for dinner.
I thought it'd just be mom and I but her new friends was still here. I sat at the table picking at my broccoli,"So how'd you two meet?" I asked looking between the two of them. David spoke first,"I met your mother in the grocery story actually" he chuckled looking at her.
It didn't take a genius to see that the two were more than friends. The way he looked at her and the way she looked at him. I think I'm going to be sick,"You two are dating?" I asked cutting him off.
My mothers fork dropped on her plate with a clatter,"Yes in fact we are and..." David smiled reaching for my mothers hand. My face displayed no emotion at all,"So mom when were you going to tell me?"
"It was a surprise, but since you asked we are not dating w- we're engaged," she smiled nervously holding his hand. I saw the ring glistening on her finger in the light. "Parker?" I looked away.
"Honey are you okay?" She sighed "I should have told you sooner but I-"
I spared her the explanation,"No need" my chair scrapped the floor as I got up to leave.
