The reason I walk in the light

Chapter #3 June

I'm about to open the door, but Day stands up and gets to the door first.

"I'll take it from here." He whispers to me.

Fear builds up in me as I walk back to the couch. I started analyzing everything, ready to spring up and protect Day if needed.

But he opens the door casually and I see Eden appear. A sigh of relief escapes me, and I relax.

Just then Tess calls for my help, so I get up and walk over.

After about ten minutes, Tess and I have dinner finished and ready to eat. From what I've seen Pascao, Eden, and Day are getting along just like brothers, considering 2 out of 3 of them are. An occasional fight, a punch there, and kick here, and then all three are laughing. Eden gets his curls pulled a lot, and he whines like a little girl. Always always dodges their hands, so his hair doesn't get pulled. Pascao, well Pascao has just about no hair to be pulled.

Tess calls out to them "Boys, dinner is ready!"
As if they have the same mind, all three of them yell back in unison,"Coming mom!"

I look into Day's to see if they had any symbol or hurt or pain, that I brought upon him by basically killing his mom. I will never be able to forgive myself for what I did. But Day seems just fine. I guess he just doesn't remember that I did it, yet. But the truth will come out and that day will be a nightmare. Until then, I will enjoy the little time we have, living and loving like ordinary people.

We eat dinner as a family. It made me notice that the simple things in life are the valuable ones. Day and I sit next to each other, and slowly but surely, we scoot closer, and closer, and closer. Eden sits by Tess, and Pasco sits at the head of the table. Eden constantly keeps blushing by Tess.. He must adore her.

I try to get everyone's attention. I wanted to snap a quick picture to keep it as a memory. I pull out my phone and raise it up, but I couldn't get everyone to fit in the picture. Day grabbed my hand gently and repositioned the phone. I had a flashback of when Metias taught me how to take pictures at a very young age. I smiled and took a 'selfie'.

Next thing I know, Tess pulls out a cake, my favorite may I add, and starts singing happy birthday. Everyone joins in, while I think of a wish. When I'm satisfied with my wish I blow out the candles. "Happy 27th birthday June!"

I'm about to respond when Pascao and Tess simultaneously pull out a big box with holes in it. I stare at it for a second, confused, then I hear a bark.
"No you didn't!" I scream of excitement.
"You deserved it, June." Pascao says with a smile.

I take the puppy out of the box. It looks just like Ollie and my eyes start watering. "I'm going to name him Oliver in honor of Ollie." I say.
Tess laughs a little while saying," It's a girl."

"Ok then I'll call her Olivia." I say while petting my new puppy. I put her down and give Pascao and Tess a huge hug. I thank both of them.

I glance over my shoulder to see Olivia playing with Day and Eden. I smile happily, best birthday ever.

Day speaks up," Eden and I got you something too."

I couldn't help but wonder how'd he even know it was my birthday.

Out of his pocket, he pulls out a box wrapped nicely with a big red bow. I unwrap it carefully and open the box. I had to close my mouth so I wouldn't scream of joy. It looked exactly the same as the necklace Day had given me, oh so long ago.

It was shaped in a tear drop of ruby, in a metal frame on a chain. I could see the precise cuts on the ruby to make it look ultra beautiful.

I quickly put it around my neck and run to hug Day. "You remembered!" I exclaim. He had an idiotic look of confusion on his face. He obviously didn't know what I was talking about. I shrugged it off. While I was hugging him, I got on my tippy toes and kissed him on the lips. It was fast, clean, but most certainly amazing. I blushed slightly and moved on to hug Eden.

It's been quite a bit of time since we opened the presents. Pascao has left already. Only leaving me, Tess, Eden, and Day.

Tess and I really wanted to pull a prank on Day. He had just dozed off for a second with his hair on the edge of the couch, dropping down. Handy Tess comes with two bowls. One is a pink shade and ones blue. She wanted to dye his hair. "You're a genius!" I say in a hushed whisper. Slowly we ombré his tips, blue to purple to pink. He's gonna be in for a lovely surprise. "If anything, Eden did this" I laugh as I speak.

Soon enough Day wakes up but he doesn't notice. He was still shrugging off his nap when I glanced at the time. Its 2400 hours. "I've got to head home now. It's getting late."
At this Day's head jerked up and he instantly said," I'll walk you back. It's dark out and I wouldn't want anything happening to you."

Day grabs his coat, and I wave everyone goodbye and we leave together.
