When Genesis reached the Abraço Café, it was two minutes to twelve and her sister was nowhere to be seen. She supposed some things would never change, such as Jazmine's tardy punctuality. She locked her car and leaned against it, waiting at the curb. At exactly noon she would leave, it was Jazmine's loss.
The time on her watch read eleven fifty-nine. Just as Genesis was getting ready to unlock her car, she felt the presence of someone approaching. She turned to her right to find Jazmine wearing a pink satin scarf wrapped over her head and had ridiculously huge, black sunglasses concealing her face.
"Thirty seconds to spare, lucky you. Now what exactly are you supposed to be?" Genesis raised an eyebrow at her sister's attire. She resembled something between Mary Poppins and Britney Spears.
"Tyler doesn't know I'm meeting you and I'd appreciate it if we kept it that way. Quite frankly, I don't fancy anyone seeing me with you." Jazmine snapped, shifting the far-too-large glasses back up the bridge of her nose.
Genesis pushed herself up off her car and led Jazmine inside the café, deciding to taunt her some more. "What a shame. Does the hubby not approve of the darling little sister?"
"He doesn't trust you." Jazmine stated, crossing her arms. All the better, Genesis thought, it would make things a whole lot easier. She simply scoffed in response, she couldn't care less what Tyler had to say about her. He was of limited use to her anyway.
After they had ordered their hot beverages, Genesis directed Jazmine to a secluded table at the far left of the shop.
"So how have you been, Jazzy?" She started, taking a sip of her tea.
"Cut the bull, Genesis. You and I both know you couldn't give a crap. Now tell me why you're here."
"I'm here because this city is my new home. It just so happens that it's yours too. What a coincidence, am I right?" Genesis provoked her.
"No. Why are you here?" Jazmine emphasized. "As in, back in my life. This has never been your type of scene, Genesis. You always hated being in the spotlight."
Genesis let out a heavy sigh. "Is the fact that I just want to reconnect with my only sister too much to ask for?" She asked with innocence, though her intentions were far from it. It was apparent that Jazmine had begun to grow impatient, her fists clenched as she leaned forward on the table.
"I'm going to ask you one more time. Why are you really here?"
Mirroring her actions, Genesis leaned forward, getting in Jazmine's face. "And what is it that you intend on doing if I don't answer to your satisfaction?" She enunciated, showing Jazmine that there were no threats that she could make that would scare her. Not anymore.
"Jaz?"
The voice of Jazmine's husband caused them both to turn their heads immediately, almost giving Genesis whiplash in the process. Beside their table stood both Tyler Morris and Damon Soldati, with surprised looks on their faces.
"What are you doing here?" He questioned, taking a seat next to Jazmine as Damon sat opposite, alongside Genesis. He casually threw his arm around her shoulders to which she shrugged off straight away. It wasn't the time nor place, she thought. They had been in the middle of something important before the men interrupted.
"Genesis and I had a few things to discuss. Why are you here babe?" She put on her 'sweet' voice as if she hadn't been caught making empty threats a moment ago.
"Damon and I get coffee here every day during our lunch break. You didn't know?" Tyler answered with scepticism.
As it turned out, Jazmine didn't know, but Genesis certainly did. It was the reason she had told her sister to meet her there. Since the couple evidently hadn't gone on their honeymoon for reasons Genesis was not concerned with, it meant Tyler's daily schedule had more than likely reverted to normal. She knew that there was a fair chance they might run into the men there today, but she hadn't counted on them coming so soon.
