Saturday

It was now half twelve in the morning and the pair were racing along the motorway to the location they were certain Emily was being held. They had to give credit where it was due, it wasn't either of them who had found the place. Wanting to save time so they could get ready whilst the hacking was being done, they put that task in the hands of reliable friends.

At first, Genesis had thought to call Audrey for help - but that idea departed as soon as it came forth. The two of them weren't on good terms, and probably wouldn't be for a long time. There was no way Audrey would be dishing out favours anytime soon, Genesis had thought. Damon then offered to have his cousin in Italy - Matteo - help with the escapade, but Genesis declined as she wanted to keep the mission between people she personally knew, and were familiar with the operation.

Although she was reluctant to bother them when their baby's due date was so near, Genesis had found herself going to Marcus and Lydia for aid once again. As always, the couple were more than willing to assist her, apparently their married life was lacking the thrill that their former occupation provided them with. Genesis had sent over all the information she and Damon had found; allowing them to handle the rest.

Twenty minutes ago they had messaged Genesis with coordinates traced from the transaction details she had sent them. Damon had been tucking one of Genesis' many firearms into the waistband of his suit, whilst the woman herself had just finished transforming into the one and only - Harmonie.

After the text came through, she adjusted her mask onto her face, the two of them fixing every weapon they could onto their bodies. They couldn't carry duffle bags with weapons because there was no time to conjure up a careful break-in. The risk of what they were doing was high but there was no other way to go about it, this wasn't a planned attack, it was an all-out ambush.

Damon turned off of the highway, following the GPS through a relatively suburban neighbourhood. The streetlights along the pavements whizzed by in a blur as the car sped down each road.

A comfortable silence enveloped the vehicle, allowing Genesis and Damon to be at one with their thoughts. Both were collecting themselves, focusing their minds onto what was to come. The feeling of a large, warm hand on hers caused Genesis to turn her attention towards the man in her driver's seat.

"Hm?" She hummed in response, turning the palm of her hand so she could interlink her fingers with his. The action came uncharacteristically naturally, Genesis had never been the type of person that was openly affectionate. It appeared that her heart of steel was corroding.

"How are you feeling?" He questioned, rubbing his thumb in circular motions on the back of her hand.

"I'm fine." She answered with a tight-lipped smile.

"Yeah, you probably are. But just know that it's okay if you're not. You don't always have to be fine, nobody does." Damon replied.

Genesis leaned her head back against the headrest and closed her eyes. Sharing her feelings was still something new to her, but she wanted to be truthful with him.

"There's an overwhelming sense of finality lingering over me. It's like I know that after this, everything will be over. And to be honest, that thought alone scares me. I've always had a reason to live the way I do, something to drive me, an anger to fuel me. It's what has kept me going for so long. Once that is gone, I have no idea what my life will hold." Genesis revealed, her eyes still squeezed shut as her mind went into overdrive.

"It's no surprise to me that you fear the unknown. You're so used to planning every little detail of your life, but letting yourself just live in the moment won't necessarily be a bad thing. In fact, I reckon it will be a much healthier lifestyle for you. The absence of something to obsess over will take a huge weight off of your shoulders - I look forward to seeing the carefree side of Genesis Casanova." Damon replied, bringing their entwined hands up to his lips so he could place a gentle kiss on her skin. Her eyes fluttered open as he did, and she allowed a grateful smile to grace her lips.
