Justin
I throw my keys on the counter and run a hand through my hair. "Justin, are you okay?" I hear my mother say. I stumble towards her.
"Justin? What's wrong? Are you crying?""She's gone mom. She's gone." I sob walking into her arms. "Oh Justin." She says rocking me like a baby. "It's okay. It's okay."
-
I wake up and roll over in bed and see Shannon lying beside me. I shuffle towards her and wrap my arms around her. "Morning beautiful." I smile. She turns around in slight shock."Good morning. Did you sleep well?" She beams. "Perfectly." I smile. "And you?" "Very well thanks."
I didn't know what I was doing. Acting all nice. Even Shannon was surprised by my behaviour. I reckoned that since Indika and I were done it was about time that I realised that there had been a gem in front of me all this while.
Shannon.
I'd learn to love her. In time I'd learn to love her. I'd learn to forget about Indika and all we've ever been and could have been. I'd learn to leave it in the past and move on.
I'd learn to.
"There's breakfast. You coming?" Shannon asks smiling at me. I nod. "Of course." I say slipping my shirt on.
"Morning everyone." I smile pulling the seat for Shannon to sit. "Good morning. You're in a good mood." My mother smiles. I nod my head. "Yes mom. I am indeed." I say looking at Shannon and biting my lip slightly. She giggles.
"So when is the big day going to be?" My dad asks taking a sip from his flask. Drinking already. Great.
"The big day?" I ask, taking a bite of my toast.
"Oh come on, son. You can't stay engaged for the rest of your life. When is there gonna be a wedding?" My dad asks.
"Ooh, and then little grandchildren running about. God I can't wait to have grandchildren."
What is she talking about? She already has a grandson. Dylan. I can't believe she's forgotten him already.
"Right." I nod. "Well, my birthday is august 30th and I've always wanted to get married on my birthday." Shannon smiles. "August 30th?" I ask in shock.
That was in two weeks, August 30th was in two weeks. "August 30th! The same day your father and I got married! This has got to happen." My mother smiles. "Don't you think, we're rushing?" I ask. "Well, if it's love then it should be fine."
Damn.
No way I could get out of this.
