My heart was pounding and my stomach was in knots as I looked myself over in the mirror.  My dress was long and burgundy and clung to every curve of my body.  I wasn’t sure if this was too much but Tawny and Jasmine had sworn it was a great dress for the occasion.  My hair lay in tamed wave and my makeup had been perfectly done by Penelope, light and natural almost making me look like I was glowing.  I applied clear lip gloss before I heard the doorbell ring; my hearts pounding amplified like never before as it beat in my ears. I made my way to the top of the stairs.

“I got it!” said Penelope jogging to the door.

“Hello, you must be Eirie! I’m Penelope- Cecily’s cousin; she should be down in a minute.”  I heard her voice float up from downstairs.

“Oh nice to meet you,” I could hear the smile in his voice and it made the butterflies in my stomach intensify.

“Cecily Eirie’s here,” Penelope called up. They continued their casual conversation as I tried to steady my heart rate, after taking another breath for courage I began my descent down the stairs.  I was halfway to the bottom of the steps when they stopped their conversation to look up.  Penelope gasped and shrieked in awe which lightened the butterfly effect in my stomach as I turned to look at Eirie.  He almost looked as if he felt something? Maybe lust? But as soon as I thought I had pinpointed the emotion he masked it with a smile.  He took my hand as I stepped down from the last step and embraced me.  He smelled so amazing I thought I could possibly pass out.

“You look great,” he whispered into my ear.  I could feel my body heat up from not only his compliment but the proximity of how close we were.

“Cecily seriously you’re so beautiful,” Penelope said as we finally dispersed from our hug.  I finally looked at Eirie he wasn’t exactly wearing a tux but it was pretty close he was dressed in all black except for his silver tie that just happened to match my shoes.

“Penelope you’re one to talk.”  I said smiling at her trying not to think of the gorgeous guy in front of me.  She waved me away with her hand and giggle as she exited the room.

“We should get going we don’t want to miss the festives!” he said sarcastically chipper.  I giggled at him as he led me out the door by the small of my back.

The car ride seemed longer than usual, I think it was because I was so nervous I couldn’t think of anything to talk about.  Eirie glanced out the corner of his eye and gently took my hand, I could feel my face heat up as I looked down at our hands intertwined.

“Thanks for this favor, I really appreciate it.”  He said a small smile playing at the edge of his beautifully full lips.

“It’s no problem at all really… I actually kind of have a question I wanted to ask you?”  I said nervously he lifted an eyebrow as if to say continue.

“I know you said your mom wanted me to come but I mean you could have brought Valerie but instead you brought me, why?”  I said tapping my foot waiting for him to reply.

“Please stop with the tapping you’re making me nervous,” he laughed he still hadn’t let go of my hand and it made me feel all giddy inside.  “I told you Valerie doesn’t really mean anything to me where as you, well at least we’re friends,” he smiled a rare genuine smile that crushed my heart- especially hearing the friends part.

We arrived at his house around seven; there were at least eight cars lined up by the entrance of his house.  Hopefully no one car pooled because I don’t think I could take that many people.  Eirie let go of my hand as we got out of the car leaving me feeling cold and rather alone.
