So sorry to the only two people that read this story... it updates slowly and is crappy.....

He blinks several more times.
Quick, quick, think of a way to indirectly ask him what he saw. "What happened? Are you okay?"
He shakes his head.
"No?"
"Sorry, sorry. I was just clearing my head." He reassures me. "I'm fine. It's nothing."
For some reason, I see a spark in his eyes. It's a mix of excitement yet sadness. "Are you sure? What happened?" I probe.
He shakes his head again. "I'm sorry. It's nothing. I just thought I saw something. Can I see that necklace again?" He reaches for it eagerly.
Instinctually, I duck and dodge his hand. "No!"
He looks surprised, not only at my refusal, but at his sudden misbehaviour. "I'm sorry. I acted out of line." Then he looks at me strangely. "That dodge, it looked skilled. Rusty, but skilled. Have you ever had any training?" His eyes, though still sad, show a... what appears to be a light of hope?
"Why do you seem so excited?"
"Excited?" Confusion fills his face, not obviously, but enough for me to tell.
"Excited. And a little passionate, for some reason, and also hopeful."
"Well," he chuckles. "You're good at reading people."
"Not really." That is strange. I'm not good at reading people. "Maybe you're just easy to read."
"I didn't really think so. I think I have a good guardian mask." His face goes almost completely blank as he stares around the room. Then his mask drops as he chuckles again. "How was that?"
"That was so good!" Almost as good as Dimitri, I mentally add. "But wait, you're dodging my question. Why do you seem so excited?"
He freezes a little. "No reason. Like I said, I think I was seeing things. And besides, you dodged my question too. Have you ever had any training?"
I freeze a little too. "Scarce. It was brief, and merely for self defense. I don't do the 'Moroi is master' thing." I wince a little at the lie.
"Really..." he looks lost in thought. "It looks like you've got quite some skill though."
"Errrr.... probably just your imagination."
At that moment, a voice rises above the crowd, that is young, boyish, and strangely familiar.
"DIBEEEEEE!!!!!"
The guardian sighs as he turns in the direction of the voice as a child comes hurtling out of the crowd and jumps onto him.
He sighs again. "Please, stop. I'm in the middle of a conversation." Though his words are cold, his tone and expression is adoring, but there is a tinge of sadness again.
"Geez, you're such a depressing guy!" I sigh.
"What?" He looks surprised and confused.
"I mean as in, half the time you look sad or depressed or just lifeless."
"Really." He stares at me. "You..." he hesitates. "Nevermind. I'll tell you later. By the way, this is-"
"I am," the child declares. "The super duper epic Strigoi killer guardian!"
I laugh. "Wow! You must be so strong!"
"I am!" He exclaims, pleased to gain some recognition.
"Stronger than me!"
"Stronger than all the Strigoi in the world!"
The guardian laughs. "Yep, you're the strongest."
Then something occurs to me. "Wait... Is your name Dibe?"
He laughs again. "No, it's a nickname for-"
The child cuts him off again. "Dibe the super duper sidekick of the super duper epic Strigoi killer guardian!"
I laugh too. "I can understand why you call him Dibe. That's quite a long name," I turn to address the guardian. "Dibe the super duper sidekick of the super duper epic Strigoi killer guardian. Nice name." I laugh again.
Then, my laugh is cut off by what feels like a cold shivering on my spine, like someone is staring at me with a murderous intention. I glance around the room, nervous. Have I been found out already?
"Something wrong, Rosilia?" The guardian asks. I hardly hear him.
Finally my gaze lands on Dimitri, who's smiling and waving at me. Was the bloodlust my imagination? I wave back at him, feeling a little uneasy but covering it up.
Dibe follows my gaze before seeing Dimitri. Then, his whole demeanour becomes cold, still and unwelcoming as a look of resentment settles in his eyes. "You should go to him." He says stiffly. "After all, he'll get the wrong idea if you spend too much time with me."
"He trusts me," I shoot back with a look of disdain. "But I don't trust you." I turn around to head towards Dimitri.
He smiles. "Li- er Rosilia! Did you enjoy yourself?"
"No! That guardian is awful! He's so rude!"
For some reason, Dimitri looks relieved when the words leave my mouth. "What did he do?"
"I just don't like the fact that he doesn't seem to like you, nor trust you."
"That's so sweet of you. I don't like him too much either. You should stay away from him."
I wonder why there's so much hostility between them? Dimitri normally got along with everyone, he never pissed anyone off. What had he been doing these past few years?
