“Father please do not leave me here I beg you!" Princess Lerato begged as her father paced around his elaborately decorated room.
Lerato and her father, the king of their glorious country across many oceans. They had come to China to form an alliance with the country. Lerato had no idea that her father intended to leave her here in this strange land where the people had light skin and wore more clothes than necessary. It had taken her so long to learn their language and it still felt heavy on her tongue.
“Lera, my beautiful girl. My sun, moon and stars you must understand that you are a princess and you have a duty to your land and your people. If we form an alliance with this country, we will prosper and we will be powerful and untouchable. We need this" he said.
Lerato sighed, her father had made up his mind. She was the youngest of four daughters and six sons and was her fathers favorite, he even loved her more than her all her brothers. She couldn't understand why he suddenly wanted to abandon her in this strange land all by herself.
She knelt down before him and kissed his feet. “Father please, if I have offended you in anyway, if I have wronged the gods of our land please please forgive me and spare me this punishment" she said.
“No no my child no, this is not a punishment. I am protecting you" the king sighed and helped his daughter up, he didn't want to tell the awful truth but it seemed that it was the only way she would understand.
