Chapter 2 - Soul Mate Say What?
“I am home!” I called out, kicking my shoes off to the side. I looked down at them for a moment and quickly fixed them so that they were even and in place. Less work for the Linda, she works so hard to take care of me so at least I can do this for her.
“Yes, yes, I am leaving now… Tell the client I will see him first thing in the morning.” My father walked into the main hallway, suitcase in tow as he clicked his phone shut. He looked up at me in guilt as he slowly shoved his phone back into his pocket. “Lucy,” he began, trying to find an excuse on why he was going to be missing the most important day of my life again.
I held my hand up, shaking my head slowly. “I don’t need an excuse dad…” I walked up to him and picked off the loose lent that always sticks to suits no matter how hard you try to keep them off. “I know you have to do your job, it is what keeps food in my stomach and a shelter over my head.”
“I love you though,” he put in, trying to save the moment. “You know I do… it is just harder on me to provide you with everything you want. I feel like it is my duty to make sure you have everything your little heart desires.”
I smiled sadly at him, “You know what I really want dad?”
“What?”
I wrapped my arms around his stomach and placed my head on his chest, breathing in his familiar scent. “I really want my one parent around when I need him the most.”
He tightened his arms me but quickly let go. “Lu I know, it has been hard ever since your mom left us but I am trying. I have always been the working parent and when your mother left it made me have to take on the role as both and it is hard, very hard.”
I nodded, sighing lowly. “Just go dad, you're going to miss your flight.”
He lifted his sleeve and peered down at his watch, gasping loudly. “Crap! Linda get the butler to to load the car now!” Turning his kissed me on the forehead quickly before dashing out the front door and into the limo. The slight hint of his ringtone going off as the door slammed shut behind him, the endless noise of constant work.
