Chapter 9- A walk in the park
Today marks the third day after the interaction with Sam, everything seems calm but I wouldn’t relax for anything. Ever since Tyler told me that Sam always has something up his sleeve I couldn’t even sleep in my own room without having nightmares. Most of the time I found myself sneaking into Tyler’s room or Claire’s, sleeping on the couch was better than sleeping alone. I have been alone practically my whole life… being ok with it then is not working out anymore.
“Goodness,” Ginger gasped, almost dropping her coffee on the floor. Her eyes widened when she locked eyes with mine, taking in my appearance. She made her way around the island and placed her hands on either side of my face. The slight mutters from under her breath gave away that she didn’t actually mean for me to hear that.
Thanks to working on my skills just like Claire said, I had managed to improve my strength and hearing. I could now hear their thumping hearts along with animals scurrying through the underbrush in the forest. I also learned how to block it out because it sucked when there would be a very loud bird chirping its head off in a near by tree. Dang it spring and the necessary need for animals to find their mates…
“Do I look that bad?” I huffed, wiping a stray blonde hair from my face.
I couldn’t even keep my eyes open anymore. I have grown so tired and weak, lack of sleep causing the worst effects of me. I knew I had bags under my eyes and the color that once filled my “vibrant blue eyes” was no longer there… replaced with dull ones filled with worry. I do believe I have also received stress wrinkles… ew.
“Define bad…” Miles drawled out. He broke eye contact with me, staring down at his thumbs as he twirled them in attempts to distract himself from the horrid sight of my face. “I mean there is always different definitions to bad… you could always look bad in a hot kind of way?”
The phrase was now turned into a question… I knew it, I looked like the walking dead. For crying out loud I could pass off as a dead person! I knew that the color had drained from my skin also, I haven’t been in the sun much mainly because of the trees blocking the sun every second of the day. There were only patches of sun that always seeped through the leaves that now have bloomed into beautiful green color.
“Great,” I muttered. I threw myself into a chair and placed my head down on the table, throwing out curse words every once in a while. “Miles just confirmed what I was hoping not to hear.”
