Chapter 20
I walked back towards the house, everyone gathering when they saw me. I noticed the worried looks start to vanish and happy smiles appear. They were worried about my safety, was that the case? The other case could be that they were worried about losing the person that was suppose to be leading them into battle. One thing I knew for sure was that the worried look that Tyler had was definitely for my safety.
"What happened?" he asked, grabbing my hands. He took in a deep breath and suddenly his face changed from worried to angry. "Sam was with you!?"
There were some gasps throughout the camp at his outburst and all the eyes were on my once again. I felt my anger spike at what I am pretty sure he was about to accuse me of and gripped his hand tighter. "Thank you for making a scene, I need to talk to you and Chase."
I looked up and noticed Chase was already staring at me, motioning for me to come inside. I pulled Tyler along with me as I entered the building. "What do you need to talk to me about?" Chase asked, sitting down at the table with the battle plans.
"I caught Sam and he told me what Victor is planning," I pointed to the areas were the trees were drawn up. "Sam said that Victor was going to have people stationed in these trees with a poison that can take down even the strongest of Alphas. We need to send out our best trackers ahead of us to scout out these people and take them out before we get to them."
"How can you trust a word that monster says," Tyler spat from the corner he was standing in. His jaw was clenched and the blackness was pooling into his eyes, a clear sign that he was loosing a battle with his wolf. "He is working with the man who wants to kill you!"
I looked away from him. "Was..."
There was a momentary silence between us all. "What do you mean was?" Chase asked, breaking that silence at last.
I felt a small pain in my chest thinking back to the way Sam looked. I knew I didn't love him like I love Tyler but I was still technically his mate and I could feel that bond breaking. "Sam found out that Victor wanted to kill me, when he did Victor turned Sam's whole pack against him. Victor used this poison to kill Sam and trust me when I say this... that poison was terrifying. Sam told me this information because he wanted me to forgive him for everything he did wrong to me."
"That doesn't make up for everything Lucy!" Tyler cut in loudly. "He hurt you for years! I had to watch him tear you apart and I could not do anything because it was against my orders! I wanted to show you who I really was for real and hug you. I wanted to tell you that whatever Sam said was not true and that you were the most beautiful creature ever created, but I couldn't! Sam didn't deserve forgiveness, he deserved what he received. When I finally told myself that I didn't care anymore about these stupid orders, that was the best day of my life." He walked over to the table and looked me directly in the eye. "Did you forgive him?"
I was not going to back down. I love Tyler and I was not about to start lying to the man that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. "I did forgive him; I don't care what you think about him Tyler... I am not that kind of person." I turned away from him and went back to making my plans for the fight.
"Well if you think that will work then that's what we will do," Chase said with a smile on his face. "You have grown up to be such a wonderful leader Lucy. I am glad that this group of people have you to look up to... the amount of pain you have been through just made you stronger."
I let out a small chuckle, "from the wise words of Kelly... What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
He let out a laugh and looked over my shoulder. "Well I will leave you and Tyler alone so you can talk. Looks like he has quite a bit to say, good luck Lucy." He began to leave, placing his hand on my shoulder. He smiled slightly at me and left the room, allowing the tension to build between the two of us.
I turned around and crossed my arms, looking at Tyler with all the seriousness I could muster up at the moment. The reaction I was expecting to receive when I turned around was not what I was getting at all. Tyler looked tired, he looked like he was ready to just give up. That was when I walked over to him, placing my hands on either side of his face.
He leaned into my hands and let out a small sigh. "Lucy, I love you."
I was a little taken back by the way this conversation was starting. Was he about to say something that could crush my heart or was this just one of those romantic moments I have only ever dreamed about. "I love you too, you know that."
"I am sorry I snapped at you," he replied. "I just don't like the thought of Sam being with you. I don't want to share you with anyone else, I feel horrible though because I felt happy when you said he died." He walked out of my reach and into the living room to sit on the couch. "You may not think I am a monster Lucy but I feel like one."
I followed him and sat down, "Tyler just because you are jealous doesn't mean that you are a monster. Victor is a monster; you are nothing like him. You are someone who is willing to die for another to protect them... that is far from a monster; that is a hero."
He smiled at me and pulled me close, placing a small kiss on my lips. I had missed the soft feeling of his and sighed happily. I missed just having these kind of moments with him in general. Lately it has been training and taking care of battle plans, I haven't been able to just be honest and just relax like this for a while. "I would be willing to die for you Lucy, I would take on a thousand people if that meant you were safe."
I rested my head against his and closed my eyes. "You don't know how happy that makes me feel. I have wanted something like this for the longest time and you have provided me with much more. You are the greatest gift I could have ever received."
He took that moment to kiss me once more, this one more passionate than the last. His hands cradled my face as his minty breath mixed with mine. This was intoxicating, I could never get enough of Tyler...
"Sorry to interrupt," a voice suddenly called out, breaking us from our moment.
I pulled away from Tyler and looked up at Claire, there was an uneasiness surrounding her. "What is wrong Claire?" I stood up and rushed over to her side, grabbing her shaking hands.
"Chase has been informed of movement near Victor's camp," she let out an unsteady breath.
I looked back at Tyler who had a sudden energy, unlike Claire. He looked pumped, ready to take on fifty men. Seeing him like that gave me energy and suddenly I felt the fear that laid within me vanish. "It's time."
