The day started like any other day for me, it was raining, and I had just woken up from one of my more tormented dreams. I got up though, knowing all too well that there was business back home at the pack for me to deal with. Why? Because as the Alpha there always is. I call my beta Jackson.
"One day you're going to worry yourself to death about this pack?" Jackson answers the phone so rudely that I'm taken aback by his words. "You called six hours ago not much can happen in six hours when everyone wants to sit on their asses while you're away." I growl at his response since I feel as though it's a dig at my leadership skills. As though he feels that I'm unworthy of doing my job. All because I am a woman didn't mean that I didn't earn my position, being an Alpha was something few men could do right. Maybe, it was time for them to see the new era has come upon us where we are equals.
"Are you saying that because I'm a woman there is no hope for me, are you suggesting that I'm not good enough to my pack members? Are you suggesting that I mistreat you in some way?" I ask in a very angered voice, there was no way to take those words back but in honesty I was unsure if I even wanted to.
"You know that's not what I'm saying, your the best Alpha any pack could ask for. I'm sorry I made a joke this early in the morning. I'll try to remember not to do it again since you take everything so seriously." I instantly felt guilty for my reaction, yet my wolf didn't she felt as though she had just reasserted herself as the Alpha. Not only that but her pride was back to it's usual pristine self.
"Don't let it happen again." I snarl since there is no way that I would back down from my comment now.
"Yes, Alpha Luna." Jackson says, it's as though my wolf can see his bring it's head down in shame. I laugh, even though I'm sure that Jackson has no idea why he says nothing.
"Do you have any thing that I should add to the list of issues to address with the council?" I ask thinking that maybe just maybe something did happen while I was away. I was one of the few if the only Alpha that showed up early to these meetings even if my pack didn't have a problem. A prime example would be this time, there were no issues that I was bringing to the table however I felt horrible for being present for the ending party if I didn't sit through and hear everyone's complaints about everyone. It was one of the few occasions where the Alpha's could openly mingle with one another.
"No. Have a good time." Then the line went dead, I growled at the disrespect that was shown to me but resisted calling back to yell at him. He was right 5:30 in the morning was a little early to be making jokes, even if my comments were not jokes.
I hopped into the shower wanting to wash away the remnants of the disrespect, but most of all I wanted the water to help me forget the godawful dream. A dream that was more like a memory than anything else.
I was in the meeting room for the wolves at 6 when it all began I of course was the only one there besides the elders. They roll their eyes and then call upon me.
"What is your complaint, or issue?" The oldest, and "wisest" of the elders asks me with a look of disdain.
"Nothing, I came here to hear the stories of the other Alpha's." I say taking a good look around realizing that none of them had problems this year. So I was alone in this room with the elders until the party at 9 when the moon began to rise started. The elder released a deep breath in agitation as they all took their seats, I took mine. We waited, and waited, and waited for another Alpha wolf to appear. None did. That was until the elders and I went to the ballroom at 9:10 at night to see if they had began the party without us. Sure enough they had. The elders growled at me and I shrugged my shoulders knowing all too well that this was not my fault. Okay, maybe a little.
Dancin in the Dark was on by Rihanna when I walked into the ballroom it had just started. Without thinking I jumped into the middle of the dance floor in a mini-skirt and a crop top. My slight abs, long legs, and upper curves were all on display. All of the Alpha's (all males) stopped and stared at me as I put my hands and arms above my head. Shaking my hips from side to side as the song continued. When the words "I want to rock in the middle of the night" we're sang I join in and circled my hips forward and back. I put my long brown/blonde hair back with one of my hands. I continued dancing like that bringing my hips side to side harder every time the words "boom, boom" we're sang by both me and Rihanna. When we were 3:09 minutes into the song I felt hands grab my hips. Thinking it was one of the Alpha's finally having the guts to join my I did the circle of my hips. His hands tightened, the music stopped.
"Mine," we're the words I heard just before I turned to ask what the guy's problem was. I saw it in his eyes. The jealousy, the rage, the approval, the pride, every emotion that could possibly be there was there. It was then I knew why he said mine, since I felt my wolf tugging me to get closer to him, my human self even wanting to let us dance some more with the hot ALPHA male. I shook my head and left, not wanting either side of myself to win. "Stop" the Alpha male shouted as we had both left the ballroom since he felt the need to follow me, after we had left the music resumed though as if nothing had happened. It was then that I wondered whether or not it was just in my head that it stopped, whether or not it was just in my head that the room had complete silence as he said those words, as I had turned around to get in his face about those words.
I made it to the elevator before him, the doors closing in his face quicker than his werewolf instincts could stop it. Maybe it was because I provided him with a distraction due to what I was wearing, why are you thinking like that? I snap at myself. The man growls meaningfully, and powerfully as the doors closed in his precious Alpha face. It wasn't until I saw the next floors number light up that I realized he would take the stairs. My face instantly fell at the thought that I wouldn't make it to my room before him.
By some miracle I was in front of my door before him, and if it wasn't for the fact that my key wasn't working I would have been in the safety of that room before I saw him. He grabbed my arm and I turned instantly thinking that it was one of my guards not that they could do much against an Alpha. It was him though.
"I'm yours." Maybe he was mine, he had figured out the words that made me walk away. He knew exactly what to say to calm my rational mind. Before thinking, thinking at all.
"Three days," I couldn't give in to him, this would give me time to prove to myself he wasn't my mate but not provide a long enough attachment for me to fall for him.
