Orphanage

There was one house on all of my property that housed all of the children wolves who had no families, because of a war their parents fought in, the fact that their parents believed the child was a mutt, or runt, or even because the children were forced to become a rogue at such a young age. I took all of those children in, and accepted them into my pack since to me their past didn't matter. A few of them hadn't spoken a word and have been there for months. I got there at 6a and without thought I started making breakfast for all of the 24 children. Tom followed me and did exactly as I asked without question. I was glad that he didn't speak I didn't want to wake anyone up earlier than they had to be. It was 7a (I'm still working on breakfast) when the first child came down the stairs and into the kitchen. Then another, and another, until all the children were quietly sitting at the table.

"Where are the caretakers?" I ask knowing that some of them didn't think of the people who watched over them, and the orphanage as their parents yet.

"Do you mean Mom and Dad?" The youngest asked me, I look down to see that she was standing right beside me on the right hand side.

"Yes," I say looking at her, unsure if we were truly talking about the same people.

"They smelt the food and said that they would be down in a few. They wanted to shower and get dressed before seeing you Alpha Luna." I chuckled at the etiquette the little ones showed me even when I was here every day in the morning, and every Friday night to read them a bedtime story.

"Thank you, I'll serve you the food in a moment it's almost ready." I say to the little girl, who smiles happily up at me. Sure enough as soon as I set everyone's plate down on the table the caretakers come down, and the children dig in. I shake my head at the scene before me. This is why I enjoy being Alpha, the knowledge that I've taken care of someone else. The knowledge that I've made someone better off than what they were before.

"You know, one of these days you must come over dinner and let us cook for you." The woman, Sharon purrs. I always thought of her as more of a tiger, or lioness, and admittedly I'd never seen her wolf. Maybe there were other animals that people could shift into. I mean in werewolves are real, then there must be shifters.

"Tomorrow?" I ask honestly believing that there was no way in Hell that I would be interested in cooking. I was tired if I was being honest, and with all of the guests I was currently housing there was no way at the end of the day I would look forward to making a meal.

"Absolutely, how many?" I laugh, at how excited this woman was when it came to hosting me and the other wolves.

"6 possibly 7, ontop of yourself and the children. Do you need me to do any shopping?" I ask wanting to make sure that if I didn't take part in making the meal I provided the materials.

"No, I've got it." As I begin picking up the mess I made, I quickly glance at the clock. Than do a take back, since there was no way that it could be 7:30a already. I was gonna be late for my meeting with Jackson, a meeting that I scheduled. I sighed, knowing all too well how bad it looked for the Alpha to be late. I turn around to look at the children, and find that the newest member Gabe was sitting on Tom's lap, talking and laughing. Something he hadn't done in the last 4 months he's been there. I look at Sharon and her partner seeing the surprise and shock on their faces. "You have to go I understand Alpha Luna." I hadn't said anything to Sharon but, considering we had been working together for the last 7 years, I wasn't surprised that she knew what that sigh meant.

Overhearing the conversation Tom says goodbye to Gabe, and walks out the door. I knew he was waiting outside, and I appreciated that he wasn't making it harder on the kid by sticking around. I say my goodbyes to each and everyone of the children Gabe being my last stop.

"Alpha Luna, will Alpha Harolds be visiting again soon?" I wish that I had an answer for the kid, one that had more of a certain answer than the one that I would be forced to give him. Since I had made a promise long ago to never lie to a child no matter the circumstances.

"I don't know," I answer honestly, the child embraces me in a hug. Then one by one each child joined him as though needing the reassurance that I wouldn't leave them. I give Sharon a hug, and her partner a handshake. Before walking out the door to deal with the next impossible task of the day. A meeting with my Beta, Sentinels, and Warriors, a meeting with nothing but males. I was not impressed, I was not looking forward to this. I knew that this meeting would be filled with men who tried to prove their dominance and position in the pack. As though reasserting, and reestablishing themselves in a system that's been the same for 10 years.
