"What's your name?" I don't know when the Alpha shifted but he obviously did since I heard his human voice ask the question. Of course he somehow also found the time to get clothes on.
"If you're my mate, shouldn't you already know it?" I snap at him, already knowing that it's going to be a long night, and a long day tomorrow. Having to deal with the alpha that helped me all those years ago had not been on my original agenda. Do you need anything before I go to bed? Jackson asks mind linking with me. I think about, the guards don't pose much of a threat and the rogue was a rogue. I would give him a choice to leave or die if I had issues. The Alpha, well why should I have problems killing one now? No. I respond.
"Do you know mine?" It was refreshing to have someone talk back to me without fear, hesitation, or sarcasm in their voice. I knew then that if we ever stayed together he would always give me a challenge, always keep my days interesting. I shook my head, not only answering his question but clearing my mind. Trying again to get him out of my thoughts. No wonder few people denied the mate bond, there's so much that comes with meeting this one person.
"My name is Tomas James Harolds, people always forget the as part of my name though. So you can call me Tom, James, Harolds, or Alpha. It doesn't really quite matter to me, yet." The Alpha, I mean Tomas says with a clear voice. As he keeps up my jogging pace that I had started once I was out of eyesight, from the man in the clearing. I was impressed his breathing hadn't became labored, he hadn't broken out into a sweat, and all of his muscles were visibly moving beneath his shirt.
"Thomas James Harolds." I repeat the name, wanting to test it out. Admittedly, the name itself emanated power, maybe that's why his parents chose it. Tomas quietly moaned as though he enjoyed just hearing my voice say his name. Both my wolf and human self wanted to hear that sound come out of him again. So we say it again. The sound is there again. It's hard to put into words how sexy it is when someone makes that sound while jogging. Having their abs, and slim (but obviously strong) biceps move.
"Lucy Jane Luna," I say without thinking letting him decide for himself what he wanted to call me.
"Is your last name really Luna?" Tom asks with a smirk, I could hear the laughter in his voice. It was no secret that the mate to the Alpha's were referred to as Luna's. That there job was to protect and keep the peace. The irony of the name was not lost on me. Yet, I was both an Alpha and a luna, I kept the peace and healed my warriors as well as brought war upon them. Being unwilling to have someone take my position, unwilling to have someone love me and become my mate.
"Yes." I say turning to look at him as we entered my driveway the three mile hike taking us only ten minutes due to our wolf speed. Although it took us longer than usual to cover the distance since we jogged instead of ran.
"Lucy, is that short for something?" I had to laugh at the thought of me going by my full, very embarrassing name. None of my pack members knew it, and the only other person besides myself knew it only because I had trusted him with everything else. I thought of him as a father figure, and as a father you should know the name of your child. I laughed at that since none of his children would accept me as part of their family, as part of their pack.
"No." I lied.
"I think your lying," Tom says shoving me with his entire body to the other side of the driveway. I laughed at how playful he was for an Alpha. We were supposed to be leaders, cold, merciless. Neither him or me seemed to be like that though. "I'll let you keep your secrets for now." I knew that it was his way of leaving something for later, something to be discovered as we got to know one another.
I let them into my house only to find the Alpha that had raised me as his own on the couch with his mate, watching a movie. I shook my head knowing there was going to be an argument that ensued.
