Of course I was right, even after shifting into my wolf form I was late for the meeting. Probably more so since I had to get each part of my outfit back on. Tom hadn't said anything, probably wishing that I broke the silence for the two of us. Yet, it was a comfortable silence to me and my human self. My wolf self thought it was suspicious that he was an Alpha he hadn't given any commands, and that part of himself should have shown up at least once so far this morning. It hadn't made one appearance, and I couldn't say that I was opposed to the fact it hadn't I never, and never will appreciate being told what to do. Of course that is unless it's by him, and we agree with what he's saying both my human and wolf self say.
When I arrive it's 8:30a, I shake my head at my own tardiness. Still when I enter the large open spaced room everyone bows their head in respect. There were no words to describe the awe that I felt, since even I didn't think that I deserved the sign of respect or loyalty this morning.
"Who's he?" Jackson snarls out the words as I take a seat in back of the desk so that I was facing the entire room. There were three petitions on my desk that need approval, ones that just arrived this morning. I could see the anger in Jackson's eyes, I could see that he wanted the authority that he wanted to be Alpha.
"It doesn't matter, what's the update from the Alpha meeting we just attended?" I ask as Tom takes at the open space against the wall behind me. Jackson turns on Tom then.
"Who are you?" Jackson enunciates each and every word, anger and venom dripping. Tom doesn't move, doesn't even acknowledge the man's presence. "I am the Alpha Male here and you will answer me. Or I'll challenge you." Tom still doesn't move and it's then that it hits me Jackson thought he was Alpha. I pound my fists on the desk, and the chair I was sitting in falls backward on the floor. Every other male but Jackson shuts up, and flinches at the action. Jackson still staring at Tom with a death glare, his nostrils flaring.
"I am Alpha here, he is my mate. But, unlike you I can keep my emotions in check. I promised all of you years ago that before I made a move towards completing or starting the mating process. I would make sure that he was the one. I would make sure that he would treat all of you with the respect that I have shown you for 12 years." I shout, knowing all too well that Tom would have to follow through with the challenge that Jackson threw down. "He is purely observing today. End of discussion. Take back your challenge unless you want to be foolish. Since I can not allow him to let your challenge go unanswered, neither will his wolf allow such a thing." Everyone gasped beside Jackson, he looked at me speechless.
"I thought I was your mate...." it was whispered. Just as those words hit me, so did a realization that felt like an ice cold bucket of water. None of the other Alphas all of which were males ever questioned my authority. No one ever looked further than my beta for guidance besides the caretakers at the orphanage. Jackson had been doing back room dealings, had been the acting Alpha. All of the warriors looked at him, the sentinels, everyone.
"You lied to us," They stated in usion, their voices deadpan, all of them void of emotion.
Jackson had nothing to say and it was then that the warriors, sentinels were all on their knees before me. Looking up at me with their heads as though asking and begging my forgiveness.
"I take it back." Jackson mumbles and leaves the room.
"We are so sorry. We thought that the two of you had gone through the mating process. We are loyal to you. We thought it was you speaking through him. What is our consequence?" I sighed looking at all of the males who were pledging their allegiance to me again. It was a mistake, and an honest mistake on their part at least.
"Nothing for all of you, unless I find out that one of you were aware of what was going on behind my back. Third?" I ask the man the furthest in the back his name Harry shorter than me, muscular, good at strategy, and had absolutely no sense of style with his white T-shirts and jeans came forward. "You are promoted, if challenged you and I both know that you can take him. Do so, I want him to learn his place since otherwise I will have him packing. Follow through on my orders, I will follow up with you on how things are going, and how well he's taking it. Everyone else I want you to hand me the papers I need to look through, and I want everyone out doing their patrols!" The last sentence was yelled louder than all the rest, each wolf scurrying to do as I asked. Harry and Tom were the only two left in the Meeting house I sighed, and put my hands in my face.
"Do I want to know how long?" I ask thinking through all of the past memories, the past memories that I hated digging through since all I wanted to do was look forward in my life.
"6 months," I look up at Harry in shock, believing that he was pulling my leg. As if quickly catching on to what the murderous look in my eye meant. "I'm not joking it's only been 6 months, he's only made one Alpha his friend, and all of them truly believed that it was your words. At first I didn't but, nothing he asked us to do seemed out of character for you." I sighed and nodded my head telling him silently that he was dismissed. I grabbed one of those folders that don't have pockets and placed all the papers inside.
I leave and when I get near the town within my territory that is completely inhabited by humans, I turn to find that Tom is still following me.
"Go to my house, I don't want you following me." I say about to take another step forward when I realize that he wasn't listening to me. "This is none of your business." I say calmly again hoping that he would get the hint this time. "Leave me the Hell alone, go back to the house and get a damn history lesson." I say without thinking his wolf whimpers as though I have physically brought him pain somehow but, he's gone. Why did you do that? He wasn't doing anything wrong. My wolf self snaps at me, while my human self quietly mutters he didn't have to, he brings back some painful things and we need to be focused.
