A month. In one months time our world had changed and the existence we lived now was...surreal.

Our home and property was a virtual fortress. There was no way to get in, unless you were invited. We'd been picking up strays for the last several weeks. The zombies only attacked in daylight hours. We were pretty sure it was because of their eyes. The piercing ice blue of their irises only allowed them to see in sunlight. They were blind and useless in the dark. We could track them in the day or night. Our evolution, our changes, allowed us free reign.

There were scarcities developing. Foods and resources. We divided up. Traveled at night and took what we needed to provide for the stronghold.

We hadn't run into others like ourselves yet. But we were pretty sure that there was more like us out there. It was only going to take time. We've taken in 10 others, humans, as we have kindly realized that we no longer are. Many were terrified of us at first, but once they realized what we could do to the zombies, they quickly joined us and safety.

We weren't really different, internally. The gist of us, what made us who we were, was still there. We were just stronger, faster, quicker. And we had no fear. The zombies could not smell us, could not see us coming.

The rush of fear, of that specific brand of adrenaline, pushed them into a frenzy. And they were able to cooperate, to work together to bring down their prey. They were dangerous. The human race was being exterminated. The bodies we found verified that. Soon, others like us were going to have to emerge, or what we did, wasn't going to make a difference.
