We traveled in the darkest of Night. That gave us at least 5 hours to make it to safety. We couldn't stay in the football field, it was a bloody attraction, and every zombie is a 20 mile radius would find its location by morning. There were options, several places that should offer safety for the large group. And it was a permanent place that we were building, but it was not ready yet.
We walked the perimeters of the group. Spaced out, sometimes coming together as pairs. We received thanks, and praise when they spoke to us. I nodded mostly. They felt safe, that mattered.
My thoughts drifted to the others. I could not explain the sensations, the emotions that overcame me. I'd never felt this way about someone before. And a stranger. I knew nothing about these others, but something in my changed body, recognized something in the other. Even now, I could smell him, feel an electric pull that was thick, tantalizing and rich.
He shifted, moving closer to my position, carefree.
"Sage. We need to talk." Ash suddenly appeared on my right.
I nodded. Not trusting my voice. I felt...thick...and I was afraid it would show in my voice. Him, the other, stopped advancing, yet he did not fall back. Interesting!
"There's a warehouse up ahead. We should be able to fit everyone. But we will have to do some repair on the sliding door. It took quite a beating." Ash said.
I nodded again. Courage... "I believe you and dad should be able to handle that." I gave a smile, that I knew was not confident.
He shrugged in response. "There's more, but... I don't think we should talk about it out here."
"OK." I wondered if he knew there was something wrong with me? What would I even say?
