Ash

His ears prickled at the sound. There was something happening.  Vision was impossible, he had to depend on his other senses now. Larien had gone out. Sought to search what remained of the mass destruction that surrounded them. He reached out, using all that he had to search for more.

There was crunching.  The smear of ash and rubble as someone was steadily making their way closer. I prepared to attach, defense second nature for my survival. And I waited.

It wasnt much longer when a mass of male strength rounded the debris piles and stealthy summer saulted down to stand within reach. "Finally dammit! Where have you been?"

Larien shook his head. "Finding death, to much death."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"There was a large group of us. Of our kind. They are desolation now. Dust and charred rock. Our beauty destroyed." He shook his head in anger.

"How many? How many?" I asked.

"At least 15. Can you imagine? 15 more of us, gone. Snuffed out in a flash of blinding light and destruction!  15 lives lost! " His words where harsh and raw. "We need to leave. Get away. We have learned enough here. We have plenty of information to take home.  Let's get the hell out of here! I need to wash the memories of this place away, forever."

I shook my head, before reaching out and placing my arms around him.  "We will survive. We will be the difference."

Larien looked down at him. At the future. "Our only option is survival." And we prepared to move out. Danger was everywhere and nothing had changed.
