There was no taking our time. We moved with lighting speed as we followed the scent of Ash and Larien. The howls of anger and seething frustration, for the moment, we're definitely moving away from us. Quieter and quieter in the distance. But the fact remained, that those howls belonged to something we'd not seen yet. And probably something we hoped never too. We had to get away. Fast as possible.
We climbed the rubble and skirted those piles that were unstable. Death marked ever corner, every Avenue that we traveled as we moved our way out of the desolation of the city.
We came out of the city, using the interstate tunnels in the north. It was good coverage to emerge, searching out to make sure that no ambush lay in wait. But everything was clear. The trail continued on, moving further away from home as we trailed them. "What are they doing?" I wondered out loud.
"Keeping the way home safe. They are making sure that whatever is in the city, can not find its way to us." Zane said quietly.
I nodded in response. Brilliant. One more enemy to have to overcome, amid the ocean of zombies already bearing down our doors. We needed a respite. But there would be known tonight and probably not for another couple. Distance was their friend now. They had to get distance. Focusing in on Ash, the distance between them needed to be overcome. But they had days still, to do so.
