Hazel:
Urgh. Monday. The weekend is over. I have to get up out of bed and go through the hellhole AGAIN.
Okay Hazel. You can do this. You can do this. Just one more year. Then after that it'll all be over soon.
Just be strong. Deep breath. Deep breath. Time to get up.
I eventually got out of bed and went to school that day. Head down, eyes avoiding contact with anyone, and walking quickly as usual. I was surprisingly unconfident for a high school senior. But just wait. College will be my escape from all the bullshit.
I immediately made my way to my first class, just until my best friend, Amira Jensen arrived to school. I waited for about fifteen minutes, then she texted me and I met up with her in the cafeteria. Amira gave me a look with one eyebrow raised. "Rough night, huh?"
I blushed, not knowing that I probably had been walking around with a droopy face and bags under my eyes. "No." I quickly shook my head. "Just had a lot of homework to get done."
"Typical Hazel. Always doing the most to get your work done. I bet you stayed up to at least 4am doing geometry, didn't you?" Amira teased.
I giggled. "Not even. Come on let's just get in the breakfast line, already." When the bell rang, she walked me back to my first class as we playfully made jokes about her new chemistry teacher's haircut.
"Alright Haze, I'll see you in lunch, babe." "Okay... oh! And before I forget we---" Suddenly, in the corner of my eye... I saw them.
