Amira... Was Never My Friend?

I felt so weak all over, I could barely move. From the pain, but mostly humiliation. I couldn't believe Alisha actually beat the shit out of me. Very badly. Over a stupid video.

I woke up to a white curtain on my side and a fully white ceiling. Then I turned to my right, and saw my lovely man and best friend.

He gave me a very warm half grin. "Hey you up, babygirl?" I smiled slowly. "Yeah." I replied, softly. "Man, Alisha really destroyed you out there." Amira said. I frowned and Jeremiah gave her a stone hard glare. "I mean, but I'm glad you're okay." She said, quickly. I forced a small smile. Jeremiah scanned me and smirked. "You know I've never seen anyone look so hot in a hospital gown before." He teased. I looked down at my new gown and we laughed.

"You're cute. Thanks." Suddenly, a beautiful cocoa brown skinned nurse walked in. She smiled sweetly at me. "Hey there, you're up. You feeling ok?"

I put a hand over my head. "My head huuurts." I whined. "Don't worry it won't be for long." She assured. "So, how did this happen?"

I looked down, feeling a rush of embarrassment, and Trigger sensed that, so he answered for me. "She got in a fight." He said simply, then shrugged. "Some crazy chick came up to her front porch and pulled her out of her own house just to scrap her with a baseball bat. Can you believe that?" He said purposely to make her feel sorry for me. Amira's eyes hit the floor and she stayed silent.

My eyes were glued to the ground, uncomforted. "Oh no. I am so sorry to here that ma'am." She said, sincerely. She paused and furrowed her eyes brows then said, "she yanked you out of your house?"

I nodded in shame. "Oh hell no, if I were you I'd press charges. Because not only did she trespass across your property but she brutally assaulted you with a baseball bat too. She can seriously go to jail for that." She said, in a concerned tone. "I don't think that's really necessary..." Amira chimed in. "I mean she ain't have to do all of that, but Hazel is okay now, right sis?" She turned to me. Nobody said anything.

A light bulb in my head lit up, and I suddenly wasn't upset anymore. I looked up at the nurse. "You know what... you're absolutely right, nurse." "I agree." Jeremiah chimed in. "We need to give her what she deserves, Haze." He looked at me raising his eyebrows.

The nurse covered up my wounds with bandages and my cuts with band aids, then kindly escorted us out of the hospital. "And hey kid," the nurse grabbed me by my arm, "I know it's going to be tough getting up in front of all of those people at court and telling your story, but it will be worth it in the end. You seem like a sweet girl and that female who put her hands on you deserves a criminal record, and don't stop until it happens. She needs to be kept off the streets before something terrible like this happens to someone else."

"Come on guys we need to head to the nearest police station." I said. "Yeah, I know where that one is, let's go." Jeremiah replied. "Actually guys, I promised my mother that I'd be home before 7 to help her get dinner ready." Amira mentioned. "But you guys go ahead." "Okay, but you're going to be there to testify in court for the assault case when the time comes right?" I asked, with wide, pleading eyes. Amira grinned. "Of course." She's always on my side, I love my best friend, I thought, gratefully.

After Jeremiah and I pressed charges at the police station, we just needed to tell Amira about the court date and information. I didn't see her in school that week. It was so weird because we would always meet up before class and at lunch and walk with each other to some classes. But I did not see her. If I were crazy I'd think she was avoiding me. But Amira would never do that.

Rumors spread all around the school about Alisha being arrested and thrown into jail. I heard students talking about it in the hallway. "Did Alisha Reynolds really get arrested?" "That's what she gets." "How long do you think she'll be in jail?" "Hopefully she gets charged as an adult." "I hate that stuck up bitch." "Did you guys see her sex tape with her stepdad?" "I heard somebody posted it on pornhub." They snickered.

""I heard Hazel is pressing charges." "It's an assault charge?" "Who's Hazel Lemy? Never heard of her." "I heard Alisha put her in the hospital." "That shit is crazy."

The rumors made me a little self conscious. I hated that everybody was in our business now.

One day, I finally caught up with Amira when the last bell rang. I came up behind her. "Hey! Amira! Over here!" I called. She slowly turned around and gave me a skeptical look. "Hazel... hi." "So, I need to tell you more about the case." She said nothing. I just continued. " So, the police already picked up Alisha, so the court date should be expected by next month on the sixteenth." I informed her. "Isn't this great? Pressing charges on her is making me feel a lot better and a lot less depressed." I made a face. "Her crazy ass needs to be kept off the streets anyway."

"Yeah... Hazel, I actually thought about it, and I think that you should drop those charges against her." Amira said, mono toned. I made a perplexed expression. "...What, Amira? Why?"  "Because Hazel. Trigger hit her. Then choked her. He put his hands on a female and we were there to witness that. You don't think we're going to get in trouble for that?"

"Listen, it's not even about that Amira, it's about what Alisha did to me." "I understand that. But at the end of the day, I'm going to make sure that I'm good." "Are you really being this selfish? I thought you were suppose to be my best friend, Amira!" She held out her hands and cocked her head to the side. "Sorry. But, I refuse to be a witness in this case. Anyways, I got to get home." I stood there, watching her walk away in disbelief.

Flashbacks of when Amira, Jeremiah, and I were at the Santa Monica amusement park, came back to me. I remember when Jeremiah had warned me about Amira supposedly being fake, and now it was all starting to add up.

Amira was never really my best friend, let alone, friend.

Her being friends with Alisha was not normal for somebody's "best friend". And being shady  like Amira was being to me repeatedly was all coming back to me. Not supportive of my relationship with Jeremiah even when he was the one person who made me the happiest.

And she was a fake friend from the start.

I should have listened to Jeremiah.

I felt so dumb.

"Don't you ever speak to me again." I snapped at her, sharply through my gritted teeth. She paused and turned, then raised her eyebrows in an unbothered expression on her face, then continued walking. Tears welled up in my eyes with regret and anger, then I turned to go home.
