The next day
So, want to do the project together, or what?" Trigger asked.
We just got out from biology class, where the teacher introduced us to the instructions for our animal behavior project.
I thought for a moment. "Hmm... I don't know if you're serious about school enough." I mentioned, playfully. "How do I know I'm not the one that's going to end up doing all the work."
"Mama, I gotchu. I wouldn't do that to you. You can come over my house everyday next week so that we can work on it together." He assured, putting a hand on my forearm.
I made a cautious face. "Why do you want me to go over your house?" "Alright fine. Then I'll come over yours how about that? Does that make you feel more comfortable, baby?"
I half grinned. "Alright, sounds like a plan."
Suddenly, Alisha and her crew walked past us. Uh oh. Here we go.
"Awwh, yall two so cute!" Alisha said, in a fake sweet tone. "It's Poindexter and the wannabe convict." Kiara teased. They giggled.
"Fuck you and your $4 weave." Trigger shot back. Everyone around us in the hallway laughed, hard. I snickered too.
"Fuck you and your fake ass gold chains around your neck." Diana put in.
"Sweetheart, my gold chains cost more than your house." He shot back.
"You probably stole those to sell to pay for your sister's pathetic divorce." Asia snapped.
Trigger stopped and turned to the girls, face to face. "Asia... first of all, you need to get your teeth fixed before you try to come for anybody."
I smirked, staring at Asia's crooked teeth. She's needed braces ever since I met her, but for some reason never got them. Asia looked so offended and embarrassed.
I laughed so hard at the roast session. It was probably the highlight of my day.
"Hazel, what the hell are you laughing at?" Alisha snorted. "Your hair always nappy as fuck, looking like if I touch it it's gonna eat me alive." Everybody in the hallway, including her and her friends chuckled, loudly.
My heart pounded against my chest and I had a dry lump in my throat, as I was on the verge of tears.
Trigger quickly came to my defense. "At least Hazel ain't no skank ass hoe, who slept with the entire basketball team."
Alisha's face dropped.
"And, I have proof." Trigger pulled out his phone. "You really want me to expose you, here?!"
"Stop." Alisha said, in a sharp tone.
"That's what I thought. So shut the fuck up and stop running your mouth."
Woah.
And with that, he turned away and I followed him, leaving the girls glaring holes in our backs as we left the scene.

"Oh my god Trig, you're wild! Nobody ever sticks up for me." I exclaimed, as we walked to our next class. "What you said to Alisha and them will probably make them stop messing with me for like a month." I giggled.
"Alisha is nothing but an insecure hoe who likes to bring other females down, it's sickening." Trigger said, shaking his head.
"She is, isn't she??"
"Why does she hate you so much anyway? You're so quiet."
I rolled my eyes, thinking a few years back. "In 10th grade me, Alisha, Raynah, Kiara, Asia, and Diana were friends."
Trigger looked at me like I had spikey hair. "You for real?!" "I know, I know, it's hard to believe." "Kind of like impossible." "Yeah but then... Alisha's ex boyfriend, Elijah started flirting with me, and trying to get with me, right?" I explained.
"So, the entire time, Alisha was thinking that I was the one trying to steal him from her. So, that's when she broke up with him and stopped being my friend and got all the other girls to hate me for it as well."
"Wow... that is so stupid. All of those friendships were ruined over a boy?" Trigger shook his head in shame. "I will never get females, man." I made a sad face and stared at the ground. He turned to me. "Well, except you. You're not like other females, your different." "Different? How?" I gushed.
"You're like a beautiful, exotic sunflower who doesn't want to be like the other flowers. But instead, you do your own thing and bloom more gorgeous and unique than any other flower... by just being yourself."
"Wow Trigger..." I stared at his, wide hazel eyes. "That was beautiful. Do you write poetry?" He blushed. "Maybe a little." "Why does everybody always think that you're so bad and vicious?" "It's just because they don't see the other side of me. I'm sugar too, not just spice." Trigger gave me a charming smile.
"But I'll see you later, I'll call you tonight, Hazel." Trigger gave me a tight squeeze before he went down the hall to enter his next class. Wow... I think I like him. I grinned, joyfully.
Suddenly, I saw Amira walk past me. I don't think she saw me, so I approached her to confront her about yesterday. "Yo, Amira." I called in a sassy tone. She turned around and gave me a friendly smile, like it never happened. "Hey Haze!"
"What were you doing with Alisha yesterday? In the cafeteria??" Amira looked around in confusion for a moment, then blinked. "Oh... um, since I was sitting alone I guess she just wanted to sit with me, I don't know why. I don't even like her like that."
"Didn't look like it to me." I protested. "Looked like yall were getting along just fine." She turned to me with a stank face. "I wouldn't have had to resort to sitting with Alisha if you weren't the one who left me to go sit with Trigger!"
I threw my hands up. "Oh come on Amira. It was for one day! Plus, I texted you to let you know." I shot back. "What are you still even doing with him anyway?" Amira argued. "Why do you care?" I protested. She grunted. "Okay, look. We were literally only chatting for like five minutes. It's not like I'm fucking replacing you for her as my bestfriend, so you need to relax."
I glared at her, because of her tone. "Anyways, I got to get to class." She brushed past me and sped ahead."
Why do I have the feeling something has been going on behind me back?
