Allen

Rita

Boss

~!~

"Oh, hey, Rita!"

"Hey, Allen!"

"How have you been?"

"I'm pretty good."

The pair just stare at each other for a long time, or at least, a long time for them.

"DUDE, LET HER ORDER! FOR MY SAKE!"

"OKAY BOSS PETE!"

"Oh, wow..."

She laughs.

"So, uh... What would you like to order?"

"I'll have a... watermelon ice please."

"What size?"

"Regular, like usual, please."

"Of course..."

They are quiet while Allen scoops the ice. The only sound is the chatter in the little ice shop.

As Allen hands the scoop, and is about to say the price, Rita cuts him off.

"Allen, why are you being weird?"

"What do you mean? I'm always weird, it's normal."

"No, like, 'I don't know you anymore' weird."

"I don't know, why are you being weird?"

"I'm not being weird."

"You're not making fun of me or talking to me like usual."

"Yeah, I just..."

"Is it because you felt uncomfortable about that phone call? I'm really sorry, Rita. My-"

"I know, I know, 'my girlfriend was with me and that kiss stuff was a mistake'. I get it, you have a gi-"

"She's my sister."

"Wait, what?"

"That was my sister coming over for a visit. She had to tell me some news."

"Oh, really?"

"Yes, I can even call her right now to verify that."

"ALLEN YOU'RE ON THE JOB, CAN YOU TAKE YOUR DISCUSSION WITH YOUR AMANTE SOME TIME OTHER THAN NOW?"

"OKAY BOSS... I'm sorry, but can you just stay here for a couple of minutes. It's almost my break. Please, Margarita."

"This is the first time you really say my name."

"That's all you picked up from that?"

"Oh, I picked up the rest of the stuff you said. I can wait for a couple of minutes yeah, but you don't need to call your sister. I believe you."

"Really?"

"Somehow, I trust you, so yes. Also, why should we really care? We're not together, right?"

"..Right."

"Yeah, but do you still want to chat in a few?"

"Sure, I could use something to eat other than ice."

She giggles. "Okay, well, you want to go to the Domino's next door?"

"Sure." He smiles.
