Trash Bins And Meaningful Conversations

Dan turned his head and checked the circular clock hanging on the wall—it was already ten! It's really too late to walk back home...  I'd better ask if I can stay the night.  Phil had went back into his room to put the guitar away and start editing the video they had made together, and Dan was sitting on the chair that Phil and him shared after the punk boy's performance. It was so impressive to hear him play.  If I'm going to ask if I can stay, I might as well clean up some for him.
As Dan rolled up the sleeves of his jumper and started putting the empty Chinese food boxes into the trash bin, he noticed his friend come into the room.  The pastel boy caught that Phil was standing behind him, watching him pick up their mess.
"Dan, you really don't have to clean up for me—you're the guest here,"  Phil kindly stated.  Dan swiftly tossed the rest of the used napkins into the bin, then turned to face his friend.
"No, I do.  It's late now, and I don't think I should walk back home at this hour.  Can I stay here for the night?  It's okay if you would rather me leave, but I was really hoping that-" Phil cut him off with a wave of his tattooed hand.
"It's okay, Dan.  Really.  You can stay if you need to...  And I was actually hoping that...  That you would."  Phil's eyes shifted around the room, almost as if he was worried that Dan found what he said to be creepy.  But Dan was honestly flattered that his host was planning on asking him to stay.  He had developed strong emotions towards his darkly-dressed friend.  It was odd, but Dan felt almost calm and happy in his presence, almost equal to the feeling of being in the sunshine watering his green-leafed friends.
Dan smiled in response, and it was a genuine smile.  Phil took this as a green light to lead Dan to where he would be sleeping later.
"Here, Dan," Phil motioned towards his bed.  "You can sleep here; I can take the couch."
"No, you can sleep on your own bed, Phil.  I'll be alright in the living room."
"Dan, I insist.  You'll be more comfortable."  Phil's hair started to frizz out cutely from it losing the straightness from his flat iron.
If you're so concerned about my comfort then why don't we both sleep in the bed?  Dan didn't say anything.  The thought of speaking those words out loud concerned him—he wasn't about to ruin their friendship for his own desires...  Even if they were sudden and fresh desires.
Dan curled his hands into the sleeves of his sweater, as they had fallen down from where he had set them earlier.  Suddenly, he felt the urge, on top of trying to be a tidy guest, to formerly acquaint himself to Phil.  Although the two had light banter playing MarioKart (mostly insults to Phil's gaming skill from Dan), he at least had to know him better.  To Dan's surprise, the man in question seemed to have the same thought as he sat on the bed, his legs crisscrossed.  This instant connection can't simply be fate...
"I don't want to keep you up too late, Dan, but could we talk a bit before you go to bed?"  Phil shyly asked.  "I don't know if I'm sleepy enough to rest yet."
"I was actually thinking the same thing."  Dan walked to the bed and lied out next to Phil.  The punk boy smiled and shifted into a more comfortable position.
     "What should we start with?"
"How about your YouTube videos?"  Dan asked.  "I think they're really great.  Would you mind giving me some pointers on editing mine better?"
Dan didn't particularly need any advice from Phil—he was more interested in enjoying the company.  He fixated himself on the tone of Phil's voice, his northern accent, the way his voice rose and fell as he laughed when he stumbled on his words.  They talked about everything from making videos to their favorite colors, their friends and family, even social issues going on in the world.  The conversation was fun; even the heavy topics were taken on gently and free of any judgement.  By the time they were both yawning and the stars had come out, the flowery boy had given in to deep admiration for the punk rocker, like sunflowers gravitating towards the sun and the easy pattern of seasons changing and the weather always clearing up jovially with every new day in the springtime.
As their conversation was coming to a close, Dan noticed a shift in the atmosphere surrounding him and Phil.  He detected a strange sweetness in the air and decided that this was the perfect opportunity to ask his question—if I can get it out without being awkward and weird!
He looked over at the tattooed man to find that he was gazing back at him.  Over the past hour, they had somehow gravitated inches closer to each other; Dan's legs overlapped Phil's while their arms were almost touching.
     "Phil-"
     "Dan-"
They had spoken in unison.  Noooo, now it's awkward!  I'm going to screw this up!  I need to get this out now.
"Wouldyouliketosleepinherewithme?"  The words tumbled out of Dan's mouth faster than Phil could cut him off with his question. However, he was too quiet.  Phil tilted his head, indicating his confusion.
"Sorry, Dan.  What was your question?"  He didn't hear me!!  Time to cringe...
"I just, uhm...  Would like to know if..."  Spit it out, man!  "Instead of you sleeping on the sofa, you would like to stay in here...  With me?..."
"Dan..."  Phil said carefully.  Ohh no...  Is this good, or bad, or-  "This is the strangest feeling I've ever had," he shook his head, looking down at the bed sheets.  "But I was just about to ask you the exact same thing."
For a few minutes, the two looked at each other in silence. No, not just looking—admiring each other, testing the options for what could happen next with their eyes. If one moved away from the other, then they would drop the issue and separate into the calm and dreamy night. But, if they moved any closer, Dan's heart would have pounded out of his chest and onto the floor for Phil to stare and and smother with his eyes. His eyes were an intricate and soothing shade of blue mixed perfectly with green and a hint of yellow in the center.
"Let's get ready, then," Phil said quietly. The air was thick with an excitement that neither were comfortable with sharing. This was all so strange and new.
"Alright." With that, they started awkwardly sliding off of the blue and green patterned bedsheets to take off any heavy clothing. Dan stared at the wall as he removed his jumper which, he realized, should have come off much earlier, as it was beginning to be humid outside and too warm for anything but shirts and shorts.
Dan gazed back towards Phil, who was already looking at him. Then time slowed and fast-forwarded at the same time. It felt like hours and seconds had passed before they stepped closer to each other, yet their hands were already hovering near the other's. After another glance into Phil's encapsulating eyes, their lips met softly and meaningfully in the empty space that once was between them.  After a second, Phil broke the kiss to take a closer look at Dan.
"Would you like to be the rose to my tulip?"
Dan snorted.  "You are a living cliché, Phil!  But I love it."
Phil grinned and put his hand to Dan's cheek.
"Then let's make this next one last a bit longer."
They kissed again, deeper than the original.  Both of Phil's hands came to rest on either side of Dan's face while he, in return, wrapped his arms around the shorter man's waist.  Soon enough, they were stumbling towards the bed, running their hands over one another's torsos in a smooth transition into Dan finding himself pushed over onto the mattress, the punk man on top of him.  Phil broke the now heated kiss again to take a much needed breath.
"Is this alright?"  He asked, looking cautiously down at Dan.  However, Dan knew exactly how he felt, and suddenly was not nervous at all to share it now.
"Phil, you are absolutely amazing. I'm so glad to be sharing this evening with you."
Immediately after Dan's statement, their lips were interlocked once again, and their bodies, too, were hooked in a perfect rhythm. From there the night played out how Dan would have only imagined it to be in a movie, his pastel softness melting perfectly into Phil's darkly colored dynamism.
