Chapter Five: D.A.DA
***Embry's POV***
"Why are you so nervous?" Fred chuckled as I walked into our first Defense Against the Dark Arts class with him, George and Lee trailing behind. I hadn't spoken much to Lee either since our argument the same day as everything that happened with Lupin and Sirius. I wasn't blocking him out like George but he sided with George in the fight therefore we didn't speak to each other much anymore.
"Well, the last time I was in this class I passed out." I reminded him as we sat down next to each other at an empty desk. "Pair that with our new teacher being well known for being crazy and I think I have a right to be nervous."
"Oh please, I bet he's harmless." Fred waved off my worries as I door burst open from what used to be Lupin's office and we all watched as Moody limped out to the front of the class.
"Put away your books." He told everyone. "Today we'll be going over the Unforgivable Curses. Now can anyone tell me why they're called that? Yes Miss Johnson?"
"Because they can't be undone and you'll be sent right to Azkaban for casting them." Fred's friend Angelina Johnson answered with a strong voice.
"Can anyone name one of them?" Moody asked with his back still to us. I kept my hand down while others raised their's, including Fred. "Mr. Weasley?"
"The Cruciatus Curse," Fred told him as Moody pulled a large spider out of a jar and held it in his hands.
"Crucio!" Moody aimed his wand at the spider and I couldn't help but cringe as the spider's legs collapsed at the pain. I knew the pain it was feeling, it was the same pain that I used to endure every day. The pain that made me wish and pray for my own death to escape it. Finally the spider seemed to relax as Moody lifted the spell and I couldn't help but breathe in relief.
"The Cruciatus Curse, causes unimaginable pain to the victim." Moody seemed to be enjoying the spider's pain as he used the curse. It was frightening. "Another one?"
I watched as people raised their hands again but now they seemed hesitant to do so. I kept my hand down again and kept my gaze on my desk as he called on a random Ravenclaw. "Miss Downry?"
"The Imperius Curse." The girl said softly as if she were afraid of him. She was probably right to be.
"Imperio," Moody casted the spell on the spider again and started making the spider fly around the room and landing on random students. The girls cried out in fear while the guys just looked uncomfortable, trying not to appear afraid. "This curse puts the victim under the control of the caster. They can force the victim to do anything they wish. I could make her jump out the window, or maybe drown herself? The third curse anyone?"
This time no one raised their hand. No one wanted to say the third and final curse, the one that I used to beg for. I but down on my lip as I slowly raised my hand, aware of the eyes that flew to me, some of them landing on my scars.
"Miss Dobbs?" He seemed to sneer my name but no one else seemed to notice this, all their eyes still on me.
"The Killing Curse." I forced my voice to stay level as I spoke. No one said anything as Moody had the spider land in his palm again before putting the tip of his wand on its back.
"Avada Kedavra." With a shine of green light the spider dropped dead in Moody's hand and he sat it on the desk. "The killing curse, with just one flick of the wand your opponent is dead within a second. Only one person has ever survived it. Now class is dismissed for the day."
"That was only twenty minutes!" Fred grinned as we all made our way out of the classroom. "I think I might take a nice liking to Mad-Eye if he lets us out this early every class."
"Aren't you shaken?" I frowned at him.
"Why would I be?" He raised a brow.
"That psychopath just used the Unforgivable Curses on a poor spider!" I slapped his arm. "He shouldn't even be allowed to use those, even if it is for a lesson! It's like he's mad!" I seethed at him as memories of Luscious and his wife using those very curses on me time and time again, mostly the Cruciatus Curse. I remembered how it felt like my body was on fire and at the same time like I was being repeatedly stabbed. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone, not even the Malfoy's.
"Well he is known as Mad-Eye Moody." Fred smirked as I saw his focus on something behind me. I turned to see George and Lee standing at the other end of the hall waving Fred over but as soon as I looked toward them they stopped and seemed to glare at me. I looked back at Fred to see that he was rubbing the back of his neck nervously, glancing between me and his twin.
"Go ahead," I nodded slightly in George and Lee's direction.
"Are you sure?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm just going to go find Hannah and Cedric. I think they have a free period right now." I lied, knowing full well that Hannah had Care of Magical Creatures right now and that Cedric had Potions. "I'll be fine."
"Okay," he ruffled my hair a little bit before running off towards his brother and friend. I sighed as I started off towards the main doors. I could just read down by Black Lake until my next class which happened to be Transfiguration with Hufflepuff so I could see some of my friends then.
***Fred's POV***
"Why were you hanging out with her?" Lee asked when I caught up to him and George.
"Because she's my friend." I glared at him. "She'd still be your guys friends if you'd stop being gits to her."
"She's the one that picked the pretty boy over us." George defended himself.
"No she's the one that got a boyfriend while you decided to get all jealous and started being rude to her." I argued. "Lu didn't do anything to either of you. You're just upset that she's with Diggory instead of you and Lee you're just siding with George because you're an idiot."
"Hey!" Lee glared at me.
"She could talk to me anytime she wants to." George sent me a glare too as we headed down the halls and towards the Gryffindor tower.
"Yes, because she'll defiantly make the first step in forgiveness after you practically called her ugly because of her scars and then went on to say she's stupid. That makes complete sense brother." My words dripped with sarcasm. I watched my brother's face carefully, looking for any sign that my words were getting through to him.
"Fine." He gave in. "I'll apologize to her for what I said about her scars, but I'm not taking anything back about Diggory! There's something not right about him."
"Fred, George!" We all turned to see Ron, Hermione, and Harry running towards us.
"Lee!" Lee rolled his eyes.
"Sorry Lee," Hermione apologized.
"Do you guys know where Em-" Ron was cut off by Harry elbowing him harshly in the side.
"Do you know where Lu is?" Hermione finished, sending Ron a glare.
"She said she was going to find Diggory or Abbot to hang out with, said they both had free periods now." I raised a brow at my little brother as he and Harry whispered back and forth to each other.
"But I thought Cedric had Potions and Hannah had class with Hagrid?" Hermione furrowed her brow as she looked at her two friends.
"Check the lake, she goes down there a lot." George piped up.
"Okay," Harry looked between the three of us in confusion before they hurried off towards the main doors that would lead down to the lake. Leaving me wondering, what was Ron about to say?
