Chapter Twenty-One: Voices In My Head

***Embry's POV***

I woke up in a anxious mess. Today was June twenty-forth, the third task for the tournament. I looked around my dorm to see that the Hermione was the only one not in her bed, probably up early to help Harry prepare for the task. I quickly pulled on a black turtleneck and some jeans before heading down to the common room where I spotted the twins and Lee talking with each other. At the sound of my footsteps they all looked up at me but only Fred smiled.

"What's got you up so early?" Fred asked as Lee whispered something to George.

"I'm going to help Cedric prepare for today," I informed them. "What's got you up this early? Usually you're the last out of bed."

"It's nothing." George spoke up before Fred could. His voice was cold and he didn't even bother to look up at me. Fred gave me an apologetic look but I only shook my head before leaving though the portrait hole. I wasn't in the mood to deal with George's arguing today. Today I needed to be focused so I could help Cedric in any way I can. He was going to win this and be okay, at least that's what I keep telling myself. There was a part of me that kept saying something was going to happen today and it wouldn't be good but I kept trying to shove it from my mind.

"Penny for your thought?" A familiar voice asked as I walked through the corridors. I looked around but didn't see anyone. Great, I'm going crazy. I started walking again but then I heard the voice for a second time. "I can see that you're troubled, what is it?"

"Who's there?" I asked the empty corridor.

"He'll die..." A second voice seemed to whisper in my ear even though there was no one around. This voice wasn't familiar, it was dark and eery and sent chills through me.

"Who are you? Show yourself!" I yelled and I looked around nervously.

"A girl of Black...such a waste of a pureblood." The voice hissed. "I'll enjoy bringing you to an end."

"How do you know who I am?" I went cold at the mention of my true last name. People either thought I was a Dobbs or a Malfoy.

"I know everything about you, you stupid girl." A laugh echoed around me. "I know of your scars, your family, your friends, your greatest fears, and all about that Diggory boy. There isn't a thing about you that I don't know. It was sad when you bought the boy's stupid lies, how could he love you? How could he find you beautiful with how you look? He only said those things for one thing and he got it."

"You're lying!" I choked out as tears filled my eyes. "Who are you?"

"You'll know before the night it out, before you die." Without any warning pain ripped through my head and I felt myself falling to the ground in tears. I curled up into a ball, crying as the pain raged on. I didn't even look up at the sound of two familiar voices yelling my name.

***George's POV***

"When are you going to talk to her?" Fred asked a few minutes after Embry had left through the portrait hole.

"I did talk to her, were you not just here?" I asked coldly without taking my eyes off the papers in front of me.

"That wasn't talking, that was blowing her off." He argued. "When she showed up at the Burrow you and Ginny were the closest with her but now you won't give her the time of day, and why? All because she has a liking for someone else! Are you really this bloody stupid?"

"She lied to us." I pointed out.

"She was trying to protect herself." He countered.

"She told him everything but not us!" I tried to stand my ground.

"It's not her fault that we acted like gits and made her feel abandoned," he defended her and I hated it because I knew he was right. "We froze her out just because she didn't return your feelings. If anything our freezing her out only drove her into Diggory's arms even more." He stopped, waiting for me to say something but when I didn't he continued. "If you didn't notice just now, she's a wreck. The one person that's been there for her for every second of the past year might be walking into his death today. She's afraid and needs someone there for her and I'd bet my arse that it's you she wants there for her. You're just too thick to realize it! If you were there for her then she might even leave Diggory's arse to be with you!"

"No she wouldn't." I muttered as a memory flashed through my mind. It had been a few weeks ago, after we'd pranced Ron with our Canary Creams. Alicia had told Embry that Diggory was waiting for her and she hadn't wasted anytime in leaving to meet up with him. Around one in the morning everyone had gone to bed but I hadn't been able to sleep so I'd come down to the common room to plan some pranks. I'd been down there for almost two hours when I heard the portrait door creak open. I looked up from my papers, thinking it might be McGonagall or another teacher but it wasn't.

That night I saw Embry come back to the tower after three in the morning. She didn't notice me by the fire on her way up to her dorm so I'd been able to take in her appearance. Her hair had been messed up and was pink, she'd had the starting of hickeys on her neck, her clothes were disheveled, and in her hands I saw what looked like her underwear. I knew she'd been with Diggory and that they'd gone all the way that night. It'd broken my heart, knowing that she was with someone else. I was jealous.

"Just go talk to her." Lee's words surprised me and they seemed to surprise Fred as well by the look on his face. Lee had been siding with me all throughout this feud with Embry, he'd refused to talk to her. "She needs her friends, she needs you George."

I only nodded before getting up and exiting the tower through the portrait hole, in search of Embry. It wasn't even nine o'clock yet so I figured she'd be getting breakfast so I headed toward the Great Hall. I was probably half way there when I heard a familiar voice.

"Who are you?" Embry's voice sounded strained as I heard her from around the corner. I froze where I was for a moment. She sounded so weak, I hadn't heard her like this since she first showed up at the Burrow bleeding that day. I'm not sure how long I just stood there before I heard her sobbing but when I did I ran around the corner the same time Diggory did at the other end of the corridor.

"Embry!" We both said her name at the same time when we saw her. She was curled up in a ball in the middle of the corridor, crying. We both ran to her and Diggory immediately pulled her in his arms and she burrowed herself into his chest.

"Embry, what is it? What's wrong?" He asked softly as he rubbed soft circles in her back to try and soothe her.

"P-p-pain," she choked out.

"What hurts?" I asked this time.

"M-my h-h-head," her voice broke even more if that was possible.

"We'll take you to Madame Pomfrey." Cedric wrapped his arms around her tightly and stood with her still in his arms.

"No!" She snapped her gaze between the two of us, tears still streaming down her face. "D-don't, I-I'll be o-okay."

"Em-" I started to argue.

"I'm fine." She wiped the tears from her eyes and buried her head back into Diggory's chest. He looked down at her with worried eyes and then looked at me, clearly conflicted on what to do just like I was. She had seemed to be in so much pain a minute ago but didn't want to go to the Hospital Wing. I knew one thing though, she didn't need me right now, only him. I gave a small sigh before turning around and heading back towards the tower, leaving the girl of my dreams crying in the arms of the guy she loved.
