Chapter Twenty-Three: The Graveyard
***Embry's POV***
When I let go of the cup I was no longer behind the stands at the Quidditch pitch, they weren't even in sight. Instead I found myself standing in the middle of a graveyard. I started to panic inside as I looked around but no one was near, until I heard a pop and two all too familiar people were standing a few feet away with the Triwizard Cup with them.
"Em?" Cedric and Harry looked at me in shock as I ran over and wrapped my arms around Cedric's neck.
"Where are we?" Cedric asked as we separated but he kept and arm around me as we glanced around.
"I've been here before," Harry whispered to himself before he started to wince in pain and clutched his scar. As he did this a doorway about eight yards away opened and a man walked out with a wand in one hand and a bundle in the other. I recognized the man right away as the man that Remus and Sirius had tried to capture last year, the one that had turned Harry's parents over to Voldemort.
"The cup, it's a portkey!" Harry yelled at us. "Get back to it, run!"
"Kill the spare." A familiar voice hissed as the man aimed his wand at Cedric and I and smiled at us with his crooked yellow teeth.
"Avada Kadavra!" The man shot a beam of green light at us. Before it could hit us though Cedric pushed me to the ground and I felt a sharp pain as my head hit a tombstone but I didn't care. I watched as Cedric gave me a sad and loving look as the green light hit him square in the chest.
"CEDRIC!" I screamed in horror as he fell dead in front of me. His grey eyes were wide open and stared into nothing, his body pale as death took him over. I crawled over to him and shook him, as if he were sleeping. "Wake up Cedric, please wake up."
I just sat there crying over his dead body until a pale and bare foot reached out and touched Cedric's face.
"Such a handsome boy, what a waste." The familiar voice sighed as I looked up. The man was tall, skinny, bald, and instead of a nose had two slits like a snake. It was Voldemort.
"Don't touch him!" I yelled.
"Stupid girl." He hissed at me like a snake before drawing his wand and aiming it at me with an evil smile. "Crucio!" Pain filled me, just like it had this morning in the corridor but now it was a hundred times stronger. As if someone was stabbing me repeatedly all over. I screamed out in pain and felt more tears rolling down my cheeks.
"Leave her alone!" I heard Harry yell and the pain started to disappear as Voldemort made his way over to Harry.
"Harry, I almost forgot you were here!" Voldemort gave a small laugh before continuing but everything turned to fuzz to me. I had my gaze focused on Cedric's blank one as I silently willed him to wake up.
He couldn't leave me, he was all I really had nowadays. Sure I had the Weasley's, Remus, and Sirius but none of them were like Cedric. He was the only one who seems to understand me and now he was gone.
"Embry," I could swear I heard him saying my name. "Embry, look at me." I glanced around at the voice and found myself starting at a silvery Cedric. A ghost.
"Cedric," I choked out his name as his ghostly fingers reached out and brushed my cheeks.
"When Harry lets go you need to go with him." Cedric instructed me. "Take my body back for my dad, tell him that I love him. I love you Embry, don't let what people say get to you. You're perfect, remember it."
"You can't be gone," I cried.
"Don't cry over me, love." He shook his head. "I'm never going to leave you, I'll always be watching you. I love you."
"I love you too." whispered as Harry ran over to us and summoned the Triwizard Cup with his wand. I held tightly to Cedric's body as the cup took us back to the Quidditch pitch and people cheered loudly and music began to play. People were celebrating when Cedric was dead. I sobbed into his cold chest as a scream broke through the cheers and the music stopped.
"What happened?" Dumbledore asked a crying Harry.
"He's killed him, he's back and killed him!" Harry told him. "Voldemort's back!"
"Keep everyone in the stands, a boy's been murdered!" McGonagall ordered other professors as Mad-Eye tore Harry away and I continued to cry for Cedric.
"That's my boy!" I heard Amos yell. Soon enough he was beside me and crying for his dead son. This couldn't be happening, he couldn't be dead. He was supposed to be alive and well, not dead!
