April 23, 2010
I had awoken to the smell of a fireplace burning warmly upon my aching body and eggs cooking somewhere close by. I had been placed securely and comfortably upon a small well-worn out couch. I remember it so well. I guess because it was the first object I had settled my eyes upon as I awoke to the new beginning away from my so-called Mama. The fabric was covered in blue and pink daisies with little hummingbirds and butterflies feeding on the pedals, and there was a cotton baby-blue twin sized blanket tucked neatly around my entire body.
I remember thinking how perfect my life felt if not only for a few moments before reality crept its ugly ways back into my subconscious.
My only thoughts that I could not push away no matter how hard I tried were about, Harley. My gay best friend that my heart had skipped an extra beat for, was not only wanting to marry me, but I discovered was most likely my brother as well.
It made sense really that I had blacked out that day. Your brain has a funny way of knowing when enough is enough. The longer I laid there my muscles felt stiff and the back of my head was pounding.
Harley, walked into the room wearing nothing more than a black pair of pants that did not look familiar to me. He was carrying two plates of scrambled eggs, baked apples, and thinly sliced fried potatoes. My stomach growled loudly through the room. I didn't realize how hungry I was until I remembered his perfect cooking skills, or at least my stomach seemed to remember before me. I had sat up too eagerly only to quickly realize I must have hit my head when I fainted.
"Ouch!"
"Easy, Liana!" he said as he ran across the room. He quickly sat the plates down in front of us on a small cedar coffee table. He proceeded to sit down in front of me. He gently lifted my head to the left and back to the right inspecting every part of my face. My face felt hot. I had attempted to shake off every feeling of how close he was.
"You seem to be okay," He said as he continued to inspect every detail of my body.
"You had me worried there for a while," He paused as if he was coming to his own medical conclusion. "but, I think you just have a nice size bump I guess you're too hard headed to get a concussion."
I rolled my eyes and said sarcastically, "Ha. Ha. Very funny, Harley."
He leaned forward and kissed my cheek gently. I could feel his kiss still lingering. I looked away in shame as my face continued to stay heated.
