My eyes began to flutter wide open. Harley's one warning had jolted me back to the living.

"Mary Lou! Come quick! Liana is awake!"

The room was nothing more than a hazy screen of two-dimensional objects and blurred colors of charcoal-grey, pale-whites, and baby-blues

The room was nothing more than a hazy screen of two-dimensional objects and blurred colors of charcoal-grey, pale-whites, and baby-blues. The distorted visuals did not compare to the fact I couldn't breathe on my own. I had to pull the tube out of my restricted throat. At first, I attempted to scream for help, "PLEASE! SOMEONE...ANYONE! I'M AWAKE!" but, no one heard me.

I became frantic, "What if no one will ever hear me? What if I can't ever speak again?"

My heart felt as if it was pounding out of my chest. Finally, the objects in the room became clearer. I quickly discovered my left leg was elevated with two lumpy pillows and a massively uncomfortable cast. The vibrant colors scattered all over the cast was the only comfort I had because I knew right away Mary Lou had been using my leg as an open canvas for her artwork. A tiny feeling of reassurance slipped through, knowing the one fact, "Oh! Thank God! Mary Lou is really here!"

I whipped my head downwards in an attempt to look at my chest, but I could barely move. I was strapped down by tangled wires all over my body and an IV sticking through my veins. As I attempted to pull myself up, I quickly discovered they had a catheter in my vagina as well, "This can't be happening!"

I remember trying to scream once again, but I couldn't. I looked around the room trying to find a way to communicate. Harley ran towards my bed and started to push a red button repetitively next to my head. He screamed loud enough for the entire hospital to hear, "NURSE! HURRY! LIANA...SHE IS AWAKE!"

I started to claw at my neck - showing him how terribly I needed help. Harley attempted to pull my hands away from my throat as he tried to calm me down, "Liana! It is going to be okay! Everything is going to be just fine!"

I shook my head back and forth letting him know I wasn't fine. Everything about the current state I was in... was not fine, because of every IV... every wire... none of it compared to being suffocated with the oxygen tube lodged in my throat. I started to grip the tube with my hands and pull the tube out. My throat burned, and my chest felt like it was going to explode from fear. Harley gripped my hands and attempted to pry me off if the tube. I just couldn't seem to listen or let go. His eyes bulged in fear as my head thrust back. He pleaded, "Liana, No! Don't pull it out!"
