Ryan's pov
When the paramedics showed up they said Cj was stable enough to rush her all the way to her hospital in Houston. Me and my parents told her parents that we'd all meet there and so here I am crying uncontrollably in the back seat of my dads truck on the way to the hospital. The red white and blue flashing lights of the ambulance in front of us, we were told to just follow them until we got to the hospital. I sat crying and silently praying to God for him not to take her. I needed her.
The trip didn't take nearly as long as usually would since we were following the ambulance and people were pulling out of our way. When we got to the hospital the ambulance went one way and we went to the parceling lot with Cj's parents right infront of us. We parked the car and all rushed to the entrance. When we got in we asked if they knew anything on Cj yet. They said all hey knew was she was just brought in and they were examining her at the moment. I sat alone distancing my self from everyone else. I fiddled with the small ring box in my jacket pocket. My mom had insisted that I get her a promise ring since we'd been friends for a long time, I knew we were young but I knew I loved her. I sat there still crying and thinking about Cj.
I must of eventually cried my self to sleep because when I woke up the sun was shining brightly through the front doors of the hospital. I looked around for Cj's parents. When I found them they were talking to a doctor, I couldn't tell what they were saying but her parents looked heartbroken but they weren't crying, so she might still be alive. They started walking my way. Her dad walked up to me first. "Would you like to see her?" I nodded. "Ok well first you must know what's going on." The doctor spoke up sitting down next to me.
"When the brought her in, we did some test and we found that she wasn't reacting to her chemo properly, and her cancer has gotten much worse. She's terminal, meaning that we don't expect her to live much longer. Her parents have decided that it would be best for her to pass at home surrounded with people she loves, that's where you come into play. She's awake right now, if you'd like to come see her." He explained. I wanted to cry again but I had no tears left so I just nodded and stood up. "We will wait out here, we already saw her. And also she doesn't know that she's not going to make it so please don't tell her." Her mom explained. I nodded and followed the doctor to Cj.
I got to her room and she was awake with tons of wires and tubes attached to her. She looked so sick. It was devastating, but I put on a fake smile for her. When she saw me she smiled weakly. "I'll give you two so alone time." The doctor said before leaving and shutting the door. "How ya feeling?" I asked trying to fill there awkward silence. "Fine I guess, I'm going home later wich is nice." She said smiling. Then it hit me the ring, I need to give her the ring. "Hey, I have something for you," I said pulling out the small box and flashing the ring to her, "it's a promise ring. And I know we're young but I love you so much Cj." She started crying a little and I slipped the ring onto her finger. "I'm never taking it off, even when they put me 6 feet under." She said I looked at her confused, she wasn't supposed to know that she's dying. "Ryan, I know that I'm dying, I'm going home just to die." I nodded and chocked back tears. "Do you know how long you'll have?" I asked. She sighed, "Anywhere from 3 days to two weeks." I just nodded. "I'll play the song, at your funeral. I'll play Centuries." I said. She used to always joke about playing Fall Out Boy at her funeral and I am going to make sure that happens. I stayed for a little bit longer until the doctor came back and said Cj needed to be left alone so they could get her ready to leave.
We waited about an hour until we headed home. I was glad to leave the hospital knowing it was the last time I would have to be here for her. Now we're going home. For the last time.
