Chapter 9

The smoke detectors were blaring and hurting our ears. Really? Smoke detectors had to ruin our moment? I wanted to make sure the house wasn't burning down so I went downstairs to see what was up. Hayes followed me.

"Mom what's up with the smoke detectors? Is this like serious?" I called while walking down the stairs.

"Sorry kids, I was making casserole and I forgot it was still in the oven. It just got burnt and set the alarms off." My mom said in a nervous voice.

"Well I guess we'll hang outside for a bit. Bye mom." I said while heading towards the back door.

Hayes and I continued to walk outside while we watched my mom fidget with the casserole. We went to my trampoline and climbed in. It was a nice summer day not too hot but a good temperature.

"Ryan, the sweatshirt" I cute Hayes off there and interrupted him "Oh sorry, here take it." I said kind of embarrassed.

"No I wasn't asking for it back, I was gonna say I like that you like wearing it." he said starring at it.

I could feel my cheeks burn. I could only imagine how rosy my cheeks were. I smiled and laid down. Hayes laid next to me. I had my arms folded, and Hayes grabbed me by my arms and pulled me closer to him. He cradled me while we laid in the sun. I could feel his warm, soothing breath on the back of my neck. I felt safe in his arms, like I lived in a perfect world.

We laid together for half an hour talking about nonsense. Finally we got into a more interesting topic. "Ryan, your a really amazing girl. Your beautiful, have a unique personality, an your fun to be around. I wanna be around you more. So basically I was wondering if you would go out with me."

I turned to face Hayes in complete shock. His arms were still around me. My jaw was completely dropped. It took me a couple of seconds to comprehend what he said, and then I replied.
