Dancing In His Arms

Chapter 14

4 weeks later it was the friday before the first competition. The outfits were getting their finishing touches, the steps were all learned, music was all set. All they had to do now was wait.

"Done!" Announced Cece. The last alteration was finished. Folding it up and packing it with the others Cece walked over and plopped down on the living room couch exhausted.

Coming from the kitchen with bowls of chips Gemma says "I can't wait to see you guys finally dance."

"Same" agrees Derek "I only know what the music sounds like."

"That's more than I got, I've been stuck in my studio sewing and making trips to Jo Ann Fabrics for the past few weeks. Thanks for the credit card by the way. Really expands my selection of fabric and notions. It helps me out with my class grade too to use better quality items."

"No problem, to be honest all these outfits you made cost me less than a monkey suit my father would make me get. This way it helps you out as well. I'm happy to help. Let's just hope we are good enough to have need for more outfits by you." Responds Luke.

"What do you think Donny? You have been there training and teaching him the whole time." Asks Adrian.

"You'll just have to wait and see" He slyly replies giving nothing away.

...

This is it. Their first dance of the competition. Samba.

"Ready?" Mouths Aria from her set of stairs across from Luke. A curt nod and thumbs up is his reply.

The music starts and they begin walking down the steps. Once at the bottom they side step to each other till they hold hands and walk forward. Hop right, left right and spin. Aria swings her hips, accentuated by the tassles on her outfit. She dips down as Lukes leg goes over her head. Standing back up she struts forward as he goes backwards. Dips and spins, they glide across the floor till the song ends.

Walking off the dance floor for the next couple to take their place they head back to their assigned changing station.

"It could of been better, did you see the other couples dance before us? We need to step up our A-game. Quick here are your pants for contemporary. I'm gunna go see Gemma for my hair and makeup and change. Be back in 30." Not giving him time to talk, Aria walks behind the curtain.

Luke stands there in a daze till the guys come over to him. "Hey man not bad for a first timer." says Derek patting him on the back as they walk with him to the bathroom.

"Thanks, though I don't think Aria agrees."

"Oh her" Donny waves it off "She is always like that. Strives for perfection. Doesn't mean you can slack off, you still need to put up your A-game for this."

Chuckling he tosses over his shoulder "That's what she said." And walked into a open stall to get changed.

Under a spotlight Aria lays on the floor. As the music starts she twists and turns to the tune of the piano. Doing a handstand she flips over and stands, waiting for Luke to walk up behind her. Throwing her arm over his shoulder, he grabs at her waist lifting her up and spinning them both in a complete circle.
