When she finally drifted off, Alexander stayed awake watching her sleep. How on Earth has she wrapped me up so completely? We’ve only known each other a few hours. I guess what they say is true, when you meet the one for you , you just know. He wanted her with him for the rest of his days.
His cell phone rang, and he grabbed it before it could wake Livie. He grinned when he saw it was his Aunt, and then answered “Shouldn’t you be in bed?”
“ Well now Honey you know I get up early! I just wanted to check on my favorite young man.”
He laughed and looked over at the clock realizing it was 5:30 in the morning. Shaking his head he sighed.
“Yeah I’m just fine Aunt Marie. Better then fine. Amazing actually.”
“Alexander what happened with that lawyer? What did she want?”
“ Lyle passed away a few months ago, his final wish was for her to find me and find out if I am his son or nephew. He has two kids Mitch and Georgia who are dying to know. I spoke to Georgia and she seems nice. But the most surprising thing was meeting Olivia.”
“ I’m sorry to hear he’s passed on. Now who is Olivia?”
“ She’s the lawyer I told you about. Only remember how you always told me I’d know when I met the right girl and I always laughed at you?”
“Yup and I told you, that when you did you would be apologizing to me for years.”
“You were right and I was a stupid kid! I’m so very sorry I didn’t listen!”
She started laughing and said “ So she’s the one huh?”
“Without a doubt Aunt Marie. She’s wonderful, smart, amazing and funny. She’s compassionate and considerate and so beautiful inside and out.”
“Well it sounds like someone is smitten. Just take things slow Honey. I don’t want you hurt.”
“ I will be careful but it’s hard to hold back when it feels right. It’s still raining here and we’ll be stuck a few more days. I love you Aunt Marie. But I’m going to have to go, her dog is dancing at the door and she’s still asleep.”
“Ok Honey, I love you Alexander. Call me later this evening.”
After hanging up, he tried to slide out of bed. She started to stir and whispered “ Alex?”
“ I’m here Baby, I was just going to take Rebel out. Go on back to sleep.”
He watched as she nodded and then drifted back off to sleep. Walking downstairs he grinned to himself, he really liked the way she looked in his bed. Rebel grabbed his ball and whined at Alexander’s feet, grinning he said “ Alright Boy, let’s go out and play while its stopped raining. Then we’ll come in and make breakfast.”
Alexander had been out playing with Rebel for a while when Olivia wondered down the stairs. She stopped at the base of the stairs amazed at the sight before her, Alexander was throwing the ball for Rebel to chase and laughing when he would bring it back. She smiled and instead of going out to watch she went to make coffee. As the coffee was brewing she couldn’t resist stepping to the kitchen windows to watch the pair, her heart did a little flip as she watched. Rebel was a happy boy, he didn’t usually take to strangers but hadn’t had a problem with Alexander. She listened for the coffee to finish brew, grabbing two mugs down, she filled them up and walked out onto the deck.
It took a few minutes for Alexander to notice her standing on the deck, and to realize she had two cups of coffee. He called Rebel and headed for the deck. As he approached he took the mugs and set them down on the railing, the picked her up and kissed her deeply. Once they broke apart he whispered “Good Morning Beautiful. And thank you for the coffee!” He kissed her again gently before picking up his cup and sipping it. She smiled up at him and said “ So what’s for breakfast? Or would you like me to cook?”
“Naw I’ll cook. Let’s go see what we can find. Oh your cell phone was going off when we came down stairs. I’m glad the ringing didn’t wake you though, you were exhausted.”
“I’ll go check it, it was probably Georgia, Mitch or Dad. All three are worry warts.”
“Well wouldn’t want them worrying about your safety. Go on Beautiful, I’ll make us something for breakfast.”
Olivia ran up the stairs with a smile on her face, grabbing her phone of the nightstand she saw that she had 5 missed calls. She was frowning when she pulled up the list, 1 from Georgia , 1 from Mitch, and 3 from her dad. Then she noticed the voice mails, hitting the button and listening, her frown deepened.
Livie this is Dad, call me when you get this. If I haven’t heard from you by noon I’m calling the police to come find you. God help that man, if he’s hurt you. I love you Livie.
She dialed her dad and he picked up on the second ring, “Olivia?”
“Yeah Dad, it’s me. I didn’t mean to make you worry, I’m fine.”
“ You were suppose to call me Olivia!”
“Dad, I just woke up. I had left my phone in the other room. Everything is fine and I’m safe.”
“He hasn’t tried anything has he?”
“Daddy, I’m a big girl and Alexander is a good guy. Please stop worrying.”
“Have you two discussed why you are there?”
“Yes, he already knew part of it from his Aunt Marie, Lyle’s sister. Once we are able to leave here, he’s agreed to taking the test.”
“That’s wonderful! How long before you get to come home?”
“Not sure, there’s a break in the rain but reports last night said it would be raining for the next couple days. We won’t be able to get out for a few days after that. Though when the rain stops we’re going to boat over into town and have lunch with Georgia and Mitch.”
“So what aren’t you telling me Livie?”
She sighed and looked out the window, her dad always knew when she wasn’t telling him the whole story. She could never hide anything.
“I like him Dad.”
“ That’s good since you are stuck there with him.”
“No Daddy I really like him.”
“ Livie, he’s a client.”
“No dad he’s not a client. Lyle was a client. Alexander is just caught up in this crap. But dad , it’s not that simple. I’ve never felt the connection I feel with him. It was instantaneous, we just understand each other.”
“ Alright Livie. So when am I going to meet this guy?”
“After we get back to Dallas. I’ll talk to him about us going out to dinner.”
“Ok Livie, I love you.”
“ Love you too Daddy.”
