Texas Summer Rain

Chapter 10

     It was close to noon when Livie ventured down stairs, she had fallen asleep after her call to Georgia. Smiling when she saw Alex still at his computer, she went to make lunch. It was chilly so she made a vegetable soup and placed two bowls, crackers and bottles of water on the table. 

   She walked into the living room, smiled and leaned over to whisper in his ear. “ Lunch is ready Alex. Are you ready to come to the kitchen?”

   He smiled and said “Of course I am Baby, it smells good in here. What’s for lunch?” 

     “Vegetable Soup. It’s getting chilly with all the rain.”

   “Must be that cold front. Let me save this.”

  He saved his file and turned around, scooping her up in the process. She laughed and said “What are you doing Alex?”

    “Carrying my lady to the table.” 

    “Your Lady?”

   “Well yeah. Atleast that’s how I’ve been thinking of you.” 

    She looked up into his eyes and noticed a look of uncertainty, as if he was waiting for her to reject him. She couldn’t believe it, surely he hadn’t been turned down that often? Her heart started pounding, as his words came back to her, something special atleast to me, what if he truly meant that? She smiled up at him, and leaned in to kiss him. 

  “I like that idea. Now let’s go eat before the soup gets cold.”

       After lunch Alexander yawned. Olivia smiled and said “Tired?”

        “Yeah someone kept me up all night.”

     She looked down and said “Sorry about that.”

    Alexander looked at her and said “Baby, I was teasing. There’s nothing to be sorry about. I enjoyed holding you and kissing you. As a matter of fact I’m very much looking forward to holding you all night long tonight. But you know I can’t wait until tonight, why don’t we go upstairs and take a nap?”

     “Sounds good to me. I watched the news earlier and they said they don’t expect the rain to end until the day after tomorrow.”

    “Oh darn, more time to spend locked up in the house with my lady. What a hard thing to do!”

  She laughed and he pulled her into his arms. He was leaning down like he was going to kiss her, but instead scooped her up and carried her up to the bedroom, only letting her down once he had placed her on his bed. 

     “ Now my beautiful Baby, let’s take that nap. Maybe when we get up the rain will have eased up enough and we can take a walk or something.”

     “That would be nice. Oh one thing though.”

    “What’s that Baby?”

    “ When I told my Dad about you, he could tell there was more. I admitted that I liked you. Now he wants to have dinner with us when we get back to town. Is that ok?”

    “Your dad wants to meet me?”

    “Yeah, is that ok?’

    “Yes it’s fine Baby. Now let’s get some rest.”

         Alexander woke up and smiled when he realized Livie was still asleep.  He couldn’t help just watching her sleep, she looked so peaceful. His smile turned into a grin as she started to awaken. He kissed her softly just as her eyes opened. 

      “ Hi beautiful.”

     “Mmmm.. Hi Alex. That’s a nice way to wake up.”

    “It sure is Baby. Sounds like the rain is letting up, would you like to take that walk or stay in?”

    “ A walk would be nice. But first how about a glass of tea?”

   “ I’ll run down and get us some, you go get a sweater , I don’t want you to get chilled.”

    Olivia  smiled up at him and knew she was a goner, they had just met but he was such a wonderful man. How could he be interested in her? He was a famous writer and she was just a country girl, granted she was a lawyer and successful but she was still just a country girl. 

    Alexander saw the look on her face and doubt in her eyes, frowning he leaned down and kissed her. Smiling when she responded, he whispered “What’s wrong baby?”

    “Nothing is wrong Alex.”

   “I saw the doubt in your eyes, what’s wrong?”

   “ Nothings wrong Alex, I was just wondering how a guy like you could be interested in a country girl like me.”

    “ Well you are sweet,  funny, loving, caring, beautiful inside and out. Why on earth would I not like you? And what do you mean by a guy like me?”

    “Well you know, you being famous and all.”

   “ Baby, that has nothing to do with anything. Fame is a myth, I don’t go out for all the glitz and glam. Hell I’ve been told I’m a homebody or recluse, sometimes jokingly. You are an amazing woman, and one I want to spend my time with, hopefully one day  we’ll decide it’s forever. I’m just a guy, very interested in the beautiful woman in my arms. I’m not a man that plays games and I haven’t been interested in anyone in years. But I was instantly interested in you, and I don’t want you to doubt what I say or feel because I’m successful.”

   “I’m not doubting you Alex. You’re wonderful and I’m not I promise. Guess I was just wondering how I got so lucky.”

   “ Lets go for that walk Baby. I think we both need some time outdoors. Did you bring a sweater?”

   “Nope, this is Texas Alex, we usually put them up.”

    “Ok I’ll get you one of mine then.”

   He jumped up and grabbed her one of his sweaters that came to her knees, then led her down the stairs. They stopped long enough to grab her something to drink, the walked out the door hand in hand for their walk.
