Dipper dreamt that night.

Dipper dreamt that he was on top of one of Gravity Falls' highest points and he was looking down at the town. The stars seemed to bow to him. The boy felt he was king over all of everything from up here. Everything was his. The trees, the lake, even the monsters.

He was in peace. He was their protector. Their ruler. He smiled. Peace.

But then the indigo sky turned blood red. The stars disappeared. The trees loomed over him. The creatures scattered and dropped dead onto the now dry grass. Fire and smoke was seen in the distance. Screams erupted from the town. Mad cackling was heard in the distance.

Then he woke up.

A prisoner once again.

Dipper sighed through his nose. A prisoner. By himself. He felt tears brim to his eyes but he shook them off and got out of the bed. He couldn't let himself cry. Not now. Not today. Not ever.

That's when the door opened. The pink flames of Pyronica's illuminated off of the walls by it. Her friendly magenta face peaked through the bland door. "Hiya, Dipper!" She greeted. But then she saw the boy's distressed face. She shut the door and carefully sat next to him. "Hey, what's wrong, Dip?"

Dipper was hesitant a moment. Pyronica reminded him so much of Mabel. He took a deep breath. "Bill let everyone else go except me. Ford wanted to make a deal with him in the first place, and he let him go..." He looked away. "Why didn't he let me go, too? He just," he threw his shoe across the room,"left me here." His brown eyes slid to where his hands were fiddling with the soft blanket.

Dipper flinched as Pyronica laid a comforting hand on his back. "Y'know, Bill is confusing sometimes. Sometimes he does things that don't make sense, but he says it's for a good cause...or something like that." She put two fingers under his chin so she could look him in the eye. "But it will turn out okay. Bill wouldn't hurt you, and you have us!"

The boy chuckled. Her smile sure was contagious. "Thanks, Pyro."

The pink demon gave him a side hug. "Anytime, kiddo!" Then she looked around and then laid her eyes back on him. "You know you could leave this room at any time...right?"

Dipper's eyes lit up. "Really?" That was a little hard to believe, though. He couldn't believe it; he spent all that time in that room and he could have just went out any time he wanted. All this time. He was so glad for this, because it would give him a chance to explore to distract him and--

Dipper gasped. W-what was that--

Pyronica looked from where she was heading out the door. "You okay, kiddo?" She asks in a worried tone. "Do you need some more water?" Her eyebrows furrowed in a concerned glance.
