Chapter 11: Surprises

I flinched, a shadow outside the door clearly trying to look inside. I didn't know what to do. The doorknob started to turn and I ran at the door barricading it with my own body. Pain washed over me as I struck my back against the wood. The person outside tried to open the door with fury, it slammed back and forth, sometimes my feet gave away and the person could nearly open the door.

Crack.

I stopped.

Crack.

I heard the person's footsteps moving away several blocks then the door gave away from the pressure I put upon it and I feel back with the door out of its hinges.

I moaned, my wound burning again and looked up to see a skeleton standing over my face.

I jumped up ignoring the pain and drew my newly made sword out, because Israphel has taken the last one, and pointed it towards the skeleton. It stepped back, his bony arms stretched up frightened, then he spoke in a soft voice, - I-I'm not here to fight, sir!-

I eyed him from bottom to top, he was smaller than Fadom, he looked younger then him aswell and instead of a boy hung around his ribs was a bag, much like a postman would have. - What do you want and who are you?- I asked cautious. How did he know this place anyway?

- I-I'm a m-messanger, sir. I came with knews from General Fadom.- he replied scared.

I stopped in my tracks, threw the sword down and grabbed his shoulder, - Is he ok?! Where is he?!-

The skeleton looked at me with sorrow without another word, - He... He... He perished in a battle with one of the villages... The guards saw his troupes passing by while they were heading for our kingdom and one of the most skilled guards from King Galox, Barst, has attended a duel with Fadom...-

I let go of the skeleton and stared at him dumbstruck, my mouth half open.

- I-I'm sorry to say this, sir...- he muttered then reached inside his little bag and took out a scroll, he handed it to me, - One of his troupes wanted me to give you this.-

I looked down at the scroll and immidiately unwrapped the golden string keeping it in place. I folded the sheat out and read to myself,

" Dear Daniel,

I am sorry to say that Fadom is no longer with us. I am the only survivor of the attack who managed to escape but with severe injuries. I would like to pass the words he has spoken before his death to you,

' Daniel... It is now your duty to take control of the mobs. Meet our Lord and Master at the Kingdom of Jarrston in the south-east of the country Meyro. It's many leages away but I believe you can make it. Speak your name of authority to the Rock of Cathum and the gate shall open. I wish you good luck.'

With this, he has died. On your way to Jarrston, his grave is set upon the darkest cave by the Starrac river. You won't miss it.

Good luck,

Farrel."

I stared at the paper, my eyes slightly watering. I rubbed the tears away and nodded towards the skeleton then put my hand upon his shoulder and whispered, -Thank you...-

The skeleton nodded in acknoledgement, - I understand how you feel, Fadom was a great warrior.-

- And friend...-

- And friend.- he agreed then begun to take his leave. I watched him go then leaned against the wall feeling woozy, -Fadom,- I whispered, - I will go through whatever it takes to reach the Kingdom. I promise.-

The next evening I packed my things into a small leather backpack. A few steakes, apples, a pickaxe, my bow and proper arrows, fresh bandages, a block of wool and my sword which i hung by my belt on my waist I crafted earlier. -This should do.- I said and looked back at cave I used as my home.

The night before, I have ferociously read through the book searching for more useful information or, once again, the healing spell. But with no luck.

I climbed down the mountain careful not to twist my ankle one one of the wobbly rocks then made my way towards the first village. I met a few mobs on the way, most of them greeting and regarding my presence but I kept going, ignoring them. Only one task was going through my mind right now, I had to reach the Kingdom of Jarrston and on a side note, kill Barst and avenge Fadom.
