Chapter 3~ goodbye

Rosie's POV

Next morning

Today's the day. I'm dreading it.

"Can you get me something to wear?" Shawn asked me. He was currently laying on my bed scrolling through his phone. I actually gave effort to stand up and get myself ready but he hasn't moved since we woke up and he's leaving in about an hour.

"Okay" I said and walked to my closet. Shawn always leaves clothes at my house and I always leave some at his, it's just what we do. I chose out a grey sweater and black jeans for him then threw them at him, the sweater going on his face.

"Thanks" he said but it was muffled from his sweater being over his face. He stood up and walked over to me hugging me tightly. I felt him place a gentle kiss on the top of my head before walking out to the bathroom to get changed.

After ten minutes he walked back out and put his dirty clothes in the laundry then sat beside me on my bed.

"How long till your mom picks you up?" I asked as I rested my head on his chest.

"Umm...about an hour" he says after checking his watch. I nodded and pulled my phone out, turning it on to the camera.

"For the scrapbook!" I said holding it out for us to take a selfie. We ended up taking a dozen of selfies, some silly and some cute. After that we sat just talking about anything until the dreaded sound of the door bell was heard.

"That will be my mom" he said making us sit up.

"Shawn! Your mom is here!" My moms voice rang through the house as she shouted that.

"Okay thank you! I'll be down in a minute!" He shouted back politely. We stood up and faced each other. He stepped towards me and kissed me again, it was shorter than before but still had the same effect on me. What is happening? He's supposed to be my best friend but we're stood here kissing for the second time in 12 hours! I'm not complaining though...

"I promise to text and FaceTime you everyday, the two months will be over before we know it" he said quietly, his face still close to mine.

"I know" I smiled before grabbing his hand and walking downstairs. Stood in the hall way by the front door was both our moms talking. When they heard us coming they looked up at us and looked straight at our hands which were still connected. Immediately Shawn and I let go of each other, not wanting them to question it. We walked all the way down the stairs and stopped in front of our moms.

"Have a great time Shawn" my mom said hugging him tightly.

"Thank you, take care" he told her hugging her back.

"Shawn!" Josh screamed and ran from the living room.

"Hey buddy!" Shawn said picking him up.

"Don't forget my present" Josh said making us all laugh.

"I won't little man, now you do me a favour and take care of your sister for me okay? She's very special and I've gotta be sure she's being taken care of whilst I'm away" Shawn told him making me smile.

"I'll be her body guard!" He said making all of us laugh.

"Good, I'll see you soon buddy" he said setting him down. He then turned to me and I immediately pulled him into a tight hug. I buried my head in the crook of his neck and felt tears welling up in my eyes. We pulled apart and he straight away noticed.

"Don't cry, I'll be back before you know it" he said wiping away a tear which had fallen with his thumb.

"I know" I said quietly.

"Shawn we've gotta go" his mom said sympathetically.

"Come here with me" he said holding my hand gently and leading us outside. His mom said goodbye to my mom and Josh then followed behind us, closing the door behind her.

"I'll meet you in the car Shawn, see you later Rosie" she smiled at me before walking away.

"So what's up?" I asked Shawn.

"I just wanted to say happy birthday" he said quietly. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"My birthday isn't for another 9 days" I spoke. He nodded.

"I know but because I'm not gonna be around for it I wanted to give you your present now" he said reaching in his pocket and pulling out a long box. He handed it to me and I opened it up. There laid a sterling silver necklace locket. I smiled. I opened the locket and saw two pictures. The one of us at the park and one of us from Christmas last year, we were stood in front of the tree at his house and his arm was wrapped around my waist, our smiles big.

"Shawn, I love it. Thank you so much" I beamed and hugged him tightly. He let go of me and took the necklace out of the box. I moved my hair to the side as he put it around my neck. Once he clipped it on I turned back to him and smiled.

"Even though I won't be with I'll be by your heart while I'm away" he said holding the locket. I smiled and reached forwards pecking his lips once.

"You should go" I said, hurting myself just by saying that. He nodded and gave me one last big hug.

"I'll see you soon" he said kissing my cheek and beginning to walk away. I watched him as he got in his car and drove off with his mom. I sighed and walked back inside, fiddling with the locket which rested around my neck.

"You okay?" My mom asked coming from the kitchen. I looked at her and nodded.

"I will be, I just want him to come home now" I said barely above a whisper. She gave me a sympathetic look and I took it as an opportunity to go upstairs in my room.
