Rosie's POV

"And we're here..." Mom smiled, pulling up to the drive way in her car. My jaw dropped at the house in front of me. It was massive, nothing like my home back in Canada. Canada, I miss it already.

We got out of the car walked inside, the house already had the furniture in so all we had to do was unpack the last of our stuff.

"Okay kids, Josh your room is second door on the right upstairs, Rosie yours is first on the left upstairs" mom told us as we took our suitcases up the drive. We nodded and mom pulled out a key, unlocking the house and the three of us walked inside. I stared in awe at the sight in front of me.

The house was beautiful. Josh immediately ran into the living room looking around and I just looked towards the stairs which had a clear balcony looking over to where we are standing right now.

"Go check your new room" she smiled at me. I smiled back and dragged my main suitcase upstairs with me. I opened the first door on the left and gasped slightly and what I saw. The room was massive and it was already decorated pretty much how I liked, all I needed to do now was put up any pictures, maybe a few fairy lights and then it's done.

In the middle of the room sat my double bed with cream bedding and a few silver sparkly pillows rested against the head board. Opposite the bed (on the side of the door) was a long wall of mirrors which opens up to be a walk in closet when you open them. On the left side (when you sit on the bed) of the bed is the ensuite bathroom then on the right side of the bed is two windows and a door, all connected to each other, leading out to the rather big balcony painted white. Below one of the Windows sat my white dressing table with a mirror.

I lifted up my suitcase and rested it on my bed, beginning to unpack all my clothes and bathroom essentials. After about fort five minutes of doing that I jogged downstairs to get my other small suitcase which included any photos from Canada, my fairy lights and my scrap book with Shawn. I sighed and put one set of fairy lights up on the wall above my bed to make my room look prettier. I decided I would put the other set of lights outside on the balcony but I'll so that in a bit. I started to look through my pictures.

some were of me and my mom, me and josh and all three of us so I started putting them up on the wall behind my bed below where the fairy lights were and then started looking at others. Many were with my friends from Canada through out the years, I saw loads with my best girl friend, Lacey before she moved about a year ago to California. We still talk a little bit but not a lot and then there were a few with some people in my classes we'd take whenever we mess about and then there were a few with Shawn, ones from the scrap book which I'd printed twice to put on my wall. I chose against putting them up though, Shawn's in the past now and I'm clearly never going to see him again. I already know that we will lose contact eventually so I don't see a point in us even trying to bother staying in contact.

It hurts like a bitch but it's the truth.

I took one look at the scrapbook and placed in in the draw of my dressing table where no one can find it and I'll forget about it. For now to distract myself, I'll put the fairy lights up on the balcony.

Shawn's POV

And she's gone. I've let her slip away from me so easily. The probability of us seeing each other again is a one in a million chance. It's just never gonna happen. I can't help but want to call her and hear her voice but I know that if I do it will probably hurt. Let's face reality, we both know we are gonna cut contact eventually so why not just start now? I think we both thought our friendship would be one which lasts a long long time but I guess it's just one of those which lives in the past now and just holds many memories.

"Mom when will we next get to see Rosie now?" Aaliyah asked our mom as we sat at the dinner table. I stopped eating for a moment and stared at her but she was too busy staring at mom. Mom awkwardly glanced at me before turning back to her daughter.

"I don't know sweetie, they're in Virginia now. Things aren't as easy as talking through the walls like they used to be..." Mom spoke gently.

Rosie's POV

It was starting to get dark and the temperature was dropping quickly, but not as bad as it used to in Canada. I start wrapping the lights around the balcony numerous of times until I heard a voice.

"Umm...hi. Are you the new neighbour?" A male voice asked. I stopped what I was doing and looked towards where the voice came from. There stood a cute boy around my age on the balcony beside mine.

"Oh umm yeah, hey, I'm Rosie. Rosie Gray" I smiled and walked towards him, leaning over the rail a little to give him a handshake.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Matt. Is that a Canadian accent I can hear there?" He asked with a little joke in his voice. I laughed a little and nodded.

"It sure is, born and raised" I said.

"So umm how old are you?" He asked.

"I just recently turned 16, you?" I asked.

"Recently turned 17, when's your birthday?" He asked.

"June 27th"

"I'm July 7th" he laughed.

I half smiled and continued to set up the fairy lights.

"Want some help?" He asked seeing me struggle a little bit.

"Oh yes please" I laughed nervously. He told me to hang on and claimed over to my balcony before standing beside me. He held the end of the fairy lights and began to help me twist them over the railing.

"Tough day?" He asked noticing my silence.

"You could say that. Just, moving to Virginia wasn't top of my to do list" I spoke.

"I don't blame you, I'd feel the same if I had to move to a complete different state" he answered.

"Yeah, I've had to leave so much behind to move here. Friends, school, clubs, my bestest friend and his family. It sucks" I pouted.

"Were you both pretty close?" He questioned.

"Tied at the hip practically. He meant everything to me and it was literally the worst part to have to say goodbye to him and his family. They're literally my second family and it was so heartbreaking to have to leave them behind" I explained.

"I'm sorry" he spoke sympathetically. I shrugged, not quite knowing what to say.

"So uh, what school will you be going to?" He asked.

"Lakeville high?" I said but it came out more of a question. He smiled a little.

"Looks like you'll be seeing a lot more of me" he laughed.

"You go there?!" I asked with hope. He nodded.

"Going to senior year" he nodded.

"I'm going into junior year" I answered.

We finished up the fairy lights and I stepped back and switched them on. We both smiled at them.

"Thanks for the help Matt" I said.

"It's no problem at all. If you like, I can show you around town tomorrow?" He suggested. I nodded.

"Yeah that sounds like a plan" I smiled.

"Awesome, come out front at 11am" he said. I nodded.

"Night Rosie"

"Night Matt" he then climbed back over to his balcony and we walked into our rooms. For that short amount of time, I actually got my mind off Shawn.
