There was a faint sound. Like a machine. It got louder. A rhythmic beat that came. It took me a while to realize it was my own heart beat on a machine.
"whereami" I said. Although it was mostly just air coming out of my mouth. I heard a painfully slow intake of breath.
"Hey Clay." Tony. I couldn't open my eyes, I wanted to see him so badly. I couldn't move, I am to exhausted. I heard a click and a short buzz. Before he spoke again. "Clay..... don't ever do anything like that again." He didn't sound mad, or disappointed. He sounded almost glad. "You scared me, so much Clay." He grasped my hand.
Footsteps. I heard Tony sit up in his chair.
"Hello Mr. Jensen, im Doctor Cameron and I will be taking care of you for the next few days." Her voice was very young. She couldn't be too much older than me.
"Why can't I open my eyes?" I asked curiously.
"Clay, do you know how close you were to dying? You lost too much blood and another few minutes you would have been dead. You have this young man to thank, he kept as much blood in you as possible. He even donated some of his. Your body is exhausted. You need more rest, you shouldn't even be awake right now."
"Ok. I'll um, try to go back to sleep."
"Okay Clay, if you need anything, press the button."
I nodded. I heard the lights go out and the door close. I tried to go back to sleep, holding Tony's hand.
~*~*~*~*~
The lights came back on and woke me up.
I groaned.
"I see your feeling better." A nurse said.
I tried to open my eyes but it was just too bright. "Do you mind, just turning off that light please."
"Sure." There was a click and the room got considerably darker. I finally opened them slowly.
I looked to my right. Tony's head was lying on the bed next to me. He looked so uncomfortable, but he managed to sleep through the blinding light. His hair was disheveled again. This time I ran my hand through it. Soft.
"That's a real nice boy right there." The nurse stated.
"I know." I said and smiled. He snored slightly.
"He stayed since you were allowed visitors. He stayed in that lobby all day and in this room all night." She walked over to me. "I just need make sure everything is okay here." She fiddled with the morphine machine. Who knows what else is being put inside me. I looked over. Blood. I obviously should have known.
"Is that his?" I asked looking back at him.
"Yes, he insisted, especially because he could donate to you. That's why he's all sleepy-head over there." She smiled. Looking at me then him. I looked at him again. God, he was adorable. I wanted to wake up next to him for the rest of my life. The nurse left.
He started to stretch, like he was wanting to go back to sleep. Then he shot up as he felt my fingers through my hair.
"Clay." He turned to me and cupped my face. He ran his fingers over my cheeks. "I need to ask you something."
"Sure." I said.
"Will you be my boyfriend?" Holy shit. Holy fucking shit.
"Aren't you with Bra-"
"Not anymore. All I want is you." He replied. His touch warmed my face. He waited, I took a second to realize what he exactly just said. I didn't answer with words.
I pushed my head as far as I could and connected our lips for a brief second. My heart rate monitor increased, and chill ran down my spine. My intake of breath was huge as we pulled away. I rested my head on the pillow once more. My heart rate calmed down.
He hovered over me. "I guess that's a yes?" His hair was down in his eyes.
I smiled, and put my right arm around him in a hug, my head in the crook of his neck. I spoke one word.
"Yes."
