I rubbed my eyes trying to get them used to the light once again but my body just wanted to keep sleeping, I didn't want to move an inch out my comfortable bed. When I finally did get up the courage to open my eyes completely up I came in contact with Grace. She was sitting on my bed eating pancakes while watching TV. I rubbed my eyes again thinking that maybe I was dreaming because there was no way in hell this person would be on my bed eating my food. Once I realized she was real I sat up watching her. She was eating like she had never eaten before.

"How the hell did you get in here?" she jumped almost dropping her plate. Once she regained herself she continued eating.

"I have a key and don't scare me like that again."

"I'm going to need my key back. I knew I shouldn't have given you one to this house especially after knowing you."

"Whatever." She put some more pancakes in her mouth.

"Where the hell did get you pancakes?"

"Oh Cordell made them. When I was coming in he was leaving."

"Cordell made pancakes?" she nodded still eating. I sighed running my hands through my thick hair. I leaned my head up against the headboard trying to think. "Why are you here Grace?"

"Can't a person come and check up on her best friend?"

"You want something, don't you?"

"You know I am hurt that you would even say such a thing," she fainted like she was hurt and then busted out laughing. We laughed until our stomachs hurt.

"Where are my kids?"

"Cordell took them to school. Why you miss them or something?" I shook my head. "No, it's just too damn quiet in for them to be here." She laughed again. "Plus I can't believe Cordell actually took them to school."

"I mean they are his kids, I would expect he would take them to school."

"You would but he hasn't taken them to school in almost a year. He's either at work or on his way to work."

"Well since I do work with him I know how much he has on his plate. With everything that's going on, he has to stay sharp or things can go terribly wrong for him."

"I understand that Grace but sometimes I would appreciate it if he took time for his family, we are important too. I have work too but I always make time for the kids so they at least have one parent around."

"Then maybe you two should go on a date so you two can have a chance to talk things out and get back on one page." I bit my lip thinking.

"I don't know Grace."

"Why not? Obviously you two aren't connecting the way you used to so the both of you need to find your way back to each other so you can take care of things on the home front together."

"That's true but Cordell is only concerned with work right now and I don't think he will even show up."

"All thinking does is prevent you from doing. Stop thinking and try to make things right."

"What if he doesn't want to try?"

"Then at least you tried. Both of you took a vow to protect and stay true to one another so if you two need to fight to get back to one then dammit fight." I nodded laughing at how grown she had become. Usually she would just joke around but now she was just who I needed her to be. She was right Cordell and I needed to reconnect before there was nothing left between us. I didn't want our marriage to end the way my mom's did. I wanted us to make it. For us to find a way to make things right.
