This morning I had gotten up and went to the study to look over the scans of the magazine Denise sent me. She wanted me to double check everything before it went out. I keep telling her I trusted her but she still insisted that I check her work. One day she would get the message and step up without me like I want.
I was writing her an email with my comments when Noah walked in and sat in a chair in front of me. At first I paused not knowing what to do. He just sat there watching me as I typed.
"For a teenager you sure do get up early."
"Its habit," he said then looked down. I immediately understood what he meant. I felt bad that he had to go through such a thing. No boy his age should have to live like he had to. I still wanted to know why he ran away from his father. I wanted to know if his father was looking for him or not. Cordell and I sat up last night checking to see if there was a missing person of him on record but we found nothing. All I know is if one of my children ran away I would do anything to get them back.
"What are you doing up so early," he finally asked me looking up. I was surprised he was asking me a question. He would only answer questions if he felt like it.
"I'm working."
"What do you do?"
"Well I work in fashion." His eyes went wide. I laughed at his expression. The kids didn't really think my job was cool except Sapphire but that was only because she wanted free clothes. And to be famous.
"Really?"
I nodded smiling. "Yep I am currently working on my own clothing line." I sat back pushing my chair back a little. "Come here and look at my magazine preview that's about to go out." He slowly got up and walked around my desk. I showed him the magazine and he couldn't take his eyes off of it. "See dreams do come true."
He huffed, "Yea right." I looked at him and saw nothing but pain. I felt sorry for him. A child that didn't believe in his dreams was a child lost. Children should never think their dreams couldn't come true no matter how impossible they are.
"Never give up on his dreams no matter how dark things seem. There's always someone willing to give you a chance."
"Are you going to give me a chance?"
"If you let me." He nodded taking in what I said. I could tell he was getting used to this whole thing. He was slowly getting used to our family and I loved that.
He went back to his chair sighing. He looked down at his feet then back up at me. This time his eyes held seriousness that reminded me of Cordell. "I don't want to live on the streets anymore." I nodded looking just as serious.
"Then you won't."
"So I can stay here?"
"As long as you want, this will be your home but there will be rules." He nodded sitting back.
"What about your children?" I laughed again. He really didn't get how excited they were to have him there. They loved having another child in the house. Hell the twins would never leave him alone now once they found out he would be staying. He didn't know how screwed he was.
"The twins would love an older boy in the house to play with."
"What about Sapphire?"
"She will love that you will be taking the twin's attention away from her. She will eventually warm up to another boy being in the house." He looked down like something bigger was on his mind. "What else is on your mind?"
"What about your husband? What if he doesn't want me staying here? Some men don't like having to take care of someone else's children." I laughed. It was understandable that Cordell looked mean but one he got to know him, he would see he was a teddy bear. Cordell loved children, even the ones not his own.
