Part 22: Cake

Leo

"Grapes and Bananas," came her random greeting as I answered her FaceTime call.

"Huh?"

"Sorry, Jim and some of the crew are going grocery shopping while we're at a pit stop," she explains. "So you miss me yet?"

"It's barely been a week yet Elz," I say rolling my eyes.

"I'll take that as a yes," she jokes. "So whatcha up to?"

"Just got home from work and a working out so nothing."

"You had a spotter?"

"Yeah, Jay was with me," I responded looking behind me.

"He there?"

"Yeah."

"Hey Jason!" Elisha yells animatedly.

"Ow my ears!"

"Boy, please," she waves off my bluff.

"Hey, E," Jason says from behind me.

"You miss me yet?"

"Oh you know it," Jason says smugly as he enters the view of the screen and waves at Elisha.

"See, you guys should come here."

"To Alabama? No thank you," I respond.

"Aw, you're no fun," she pouts.

"I'll come," Jason says.

"Boy, stop teasing," Elisha said. We all laughed and joked around a little more before Elisha said that the groceries were back.

"Hey Leo and Jason!" Latasha greeted leaning over Elisha's shoulder.

"Hey shorty," I say.

"Hey short is a mean word," Elisha complains as perusal. "And if she's short what does that make me," she infers seeing as she's a little shorter than Latasha.

"Shorter," Latasha says. Elisha sarcastically laughs and rolls her eyes. "Alright ciao boys, Elisha is helping me cook," Lastasha says grabbing Elisha from wherever she was sitting.

"I am?" Elisha asks still holding the phone in perfect view of Latasha and herself. "I didn't agree to that."

"Whatevz, now say good-bye to the twins," Latasha said continuing to lead Elisha to the next destination.

"Fine," she sighed.

"SURPRISE!!" came a chorus of people.

I hear and see Elisha gasp in shock before the group sings Happy Birthday. Her birthday was in two days, I found it awesome that they knew, they must care. A little part of me felt okay with letting her live on the road with this group. Though I'd feel better of I were there, a part of me ached to be by her side on this adventure.

"Aw you guys," Elisha gushes.

"Wow," Jason says behind me. Elisha then shows us the people in the room holding a lit birthday cake.

Lacey

The text was pretty general, *what ya up to?*, but from him it always led to follow up questions and invitations. The dates were innocent and he took things slow like I asked but slow just didn't seem slow enough.

I hadn't answered the texted and no more than five minutes later my phone beginnings to ring. I honestly dread getting a call from Aaron after a random text that didn't happen not so long before. I hope this isn't a sign of pushy or clinginess.

To my somewhat relief I see its a call from Aristede Sr.

"Hello?" I greet quizzically.

"Hey Lacey what you up to?"

Confused by his nonchalant greeting I get a little skeptical. "Nothing, why what's going on?"

"Nothing, so where's mini me?" He asks sounding normal.

"At his Grandma's," I answer knowing he already knew his son's whereabouts.

"Cool, so you got any plans for today?"

"Um no," I say thinking 'where is he going with this?'

"Wanna hang out?"

"Uh Aristede you do know your talking to Lacey right?

"Yeah so what, do you wanna hang?"

My heart was beating strangely in my ear. Or was that just my phone vibrating indicating a new text message?

I check and see Aaron's message bubble on the screen.

-"There's this great new restaurant that I went to this weekend I wanna show you."-

I was at a loss of what to do. Do I 'hang out' with my ex or explore what could be new and exciting?

Elisha

We all ate cake on the bus after a few pictures of me and Kelly with the cake because we both were celebrating our birthdays this week. My birthday was the day before his though I'm four years younger.

I had gotten off the phone with Leo and Jason before pictures, they wished me a happy early birthday and a 'we wish were there' before signing off.

"Guys you are so awesome for this and it's so yummy!" I exclaim.

A few laugh as we head to our next destination.

...

"22," I sing Taylor Swifts joyous song of age.

"Aw baby girl can finally sit with the big kids," Patrick teases.

"Ha ha," I respond and stick my tongue out at him. "Geez,Grandpa you sound mighty jealous," I tease back and get up from my seat.

"Ha, grandpa? As if," was his offhanded response while everyone else laughs.

It's pitch black outside, my phone read 8:30pm but I guess all the travel and the now increasing sugar coma were tiring me out.

I had a missed call and text from Lacey. I checked the text.

-"Call me when you can. I can't believe what I just did, I don't think you will either."-

I read it over and my curiosity wanted me to call her immediately, but my heavy eyelids protested against it.

"Good night," I say. A few "good nights" follow before I stretch and hop into a bunk that's mine and yet not. Pulling my glasses off and fluffing the pillow that smelled really familiar I was out before I knew it.

Lacey

The night went off without a hitch, I think as I stare at the ceiling of my bedroom. The clock reads midnight, I guess Elisha must be asleep if she hasn't replied yet.

I yawn, I guess it's time for bed myself. I stretch out on my refreshing empty bed and let happy thoughts of the events of tonight sway me to sleep and pleasant dreams.

Author's Notes:

Anywho sorry to seem so dry. I recommend getting aquainted with my other stories. Though the mystery of who Lacey went out with is still unanswered there was a lot of dry points in this part. I write a bit different for each of my stories and moods tell me what you think.

Please comment, it matters.
