the air outside will make our cells
divide at an alarming rate until our shells
simply cannot hold all our insides in,
and that's when we'll explode

I missed Adrian, despite being the one who walked away, and I just wished I had the courage to talk to him again. I wanted desperately to approach him at dinner, because just watching the campers eat in the pavilion from the edge of a roof wasn't enough.

He was mad at me, and yet I wanted nothing more than his somewhat-chapped lips against mine. To feel Adrian's uncalloused hands crawling up my back was a feeling that couldn't be replaced. And even more, to see his black roots was a reminder that he's still the same drug-induced stranger I found in the maze.

Gods, I missed Adrian so much and it's only been two days since we've last talked.

I decided to leave the cabin for the first time in three days, and I almost would've regretted that decision because of the brightness and overall spring-ness of the scene. Almost.

Adrian was waiting outside the door already, clad in the same dirty outfit he wore when we first met. I couldn't describe the feeling in my gut well, but it was a mixture of insecurity and bursting excitement.

"Hey," I gulped, brushing a strand of hair back from my face.

Adrian smiled. It was a beautiful smile showed off his perfect teeth and arrogant demeanor.

"Hey," he repeated, stepping closer to me. We were only an arm's length away when suddenly Adrian headed inside the cabin and pulled me quickly with him. He shut the door, and right when I thought he'd do something dangerous, he did something even more drastic.

I closed my eyes to the soft touch of Adrian's lips against mine. He kissed me. But it was more than that. It wasn't just skin pressed against skin, but rather affection that boiled beneath our skin with a low rumble that couldn't ever satisfy our needs.

When he pulled away, the only thing I could say was, "I missed you."

Adrian smirked. He didn't have to stand on his toes to lean his chin on my head, which was incredibly nerve-racking and adorable at the same time. One hand lingered on my waist while the other traced circles on the back of my neck.

"I know."
